Shorter Ickes: We're taking the Democratic Party down unless you give Hillary Clinton what she wants.
Geez. Hearing the reaction of people in the audience makes me think that no matter what happens tonight, the Democratic Party is going to be further divided.
I think Ickes made it clear that at least some Clinton people are basically going to claim this whole thing has been stolen from her. And while I still think a lot of her campaign will abandon her after Tuesday (and promptly submit resumes to the Obama campaign), I also think odds are better than 50/50 that she doesn't really concede this week and that she will hold together a skeleton staff and have some sort of campaign all the way until August.
Yeah, I really hope so. Were the heads of each state's Dem. parties thinking, "The DNC is bluffing! They won't punish us!"? The Republicans probably already have today's events under "Save until manually delete" status on their TiVo's.
Well, one of them certainly left in anger. Hmm.....I wonder if we'll see police cars overturned and lit on fire soon. DEMOCRACY! YEAH!
Yeah, it's funny that they're the ones saying us Obama supporters are drinking the Kool-Aid. Well they're just batshit crazy.
What does that mean? A split of the Democrat Party? It doesn't look like these Hillary Democrats have any intention of joining the Obama Democrats and Ickes' sentiment seems pretty widespread... I only watched a short bit of this Democrat Rules Committee action... does anyone see any unity here? Is the action of Obama's campaign taking Hillary as VP and diffusing the tension being considered? With Ickes and Ferraro and others of Clinton's group rebelling could this start an offshoot of Democrat Party~moderates breaking away?
I did enjoy Andrea Mitchell's joke about being there to protect Chuck Todd from the Clinton supporters. I guess they don't like the guy who deals in facts and math. How does a beer-drinking, blue-collar white guy from Montana or South Dakota take a look at the wackos in that hearing and say, "yes, I want to be a part of that, I'm voting Hillary!"?
Here. Include my wife as well. Both of us would have voted for Obama. So would most of my coworkers that stayed home.
I didn't watch the whole thing. Please tell me that at some point, someone asked Ickes what has happened to change his mind since he voted to give FL and MI zero delegates at the convention. Lie if you have to. It'll make me feel better.
Todd before the decision: We do know the current magic number of 2,026 will not be in effect come Sunday and we know the magic number will not be 2,210, as hoped for by the Clinton campaign. It is likely to be either 2,118 or 2,131, depending on whether the Rules Committee decides superdelegates should be penalized (or can be) in the same vein as pledged delegates. The new magic number? 2,118.
