Not a DP?! Interesting. Good to hear he'll be training soon. Any chance we seem him play against Chile or Argentina?
Let me be the first YA mod to wish Jay all the best. I'll miss him here, but it'll be nice to have more frequent chances to see him play.
💷 Jay DeMerit was, as a 23-year-old, earning £40 per week for playing in the English 9th tier & working as a bartender 🍸🍺🏴🇺🇸 He went on to play in the @premierleague & mark @WayneRooney in the @FIFAWorldCup #BartenderDay pic.twitter.com/7jYw3ktXpR— FIFA (@FIFAcom) February 24, 2020
Watched it in a small theater when it was released. I think half the people there had come down from Vancouver. It was a quality watch.
Here’s a recent article on what Jay is currently up to. https://theprovince.com/sports/socc...self-in-soccer-partnership-with-glarea-school He was living up in Pemberton BC (close to Whistler and backcountry skiing for his Olympian wife) which would be quite a commute to Surrey.
And who can forget this goal arguably Watford's biggest ever..... Also the goal that introduced himself to the US Soccer audience. Unreal story. I don't think we even comprehend the odds he beats. I sure as hell can't. Great dude as well. I had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with him after a Whitecaps - Rapids game here in Denver.
Thanks for posting. I've been waiting for years to watch this. One of my favorite players and stories of all-time.
I got to talk to him after he retired at a Whitecaps game after he retired. Talked CB’s, MNT and skiing. He said he wasn’t a great skier but kept up with his Olympian wife and her friends. Which means he is at least a really, really good skier. Cool guy.
the fact he made to PL for one season and WC appearance is already a landmark for US soccer player. Esp how he did it. i didnt search so how did he get his Europe Passport?
My one criticism of the documentary is that they don't make very clear the fact they lasted only one year in the EPL.
