Is Jozy even going to get his job back? Jordan Hamilton has scored a couple, and apparently could have scored again yesterday, but let another player take it.
I don't think his career is in any danger other than his injury problems. His TFC coaches seem to like what he puts on the field. JK sure seems to.
Absolutely. Jozy can definitely contribute to our NT whether that is in Canada, The Netherlands or England. The injuries are really scary though.
http://www.starsandstripesfc.com/2016/8/2/12360772/in-search-9-jozy-altidore-american-forward-usmnt Jozy is not the most skilled player in the U.S. striker pool. That would most likely be Dempsey. He’s not the fastest, as Bobby Wood and Jordan Morris would most likely outstrip him in most short sprints. He’s not the best finisher, either, with head or foot. But the reason Jozy Altidore is valuable, and the reason he’s going to walk back into Jurgen Klinsmann’s starting lineup barring some disastrous run of form, is because he’s pretty good at all of those things, despite not being the best, and all of those skills are wrapped up in an impossibly strong frame in tandem with a very good read of the game with his back to goal. Jozy is a starter for the U.S. because of things like this Nice article about our man Josmer, who had a goal and some dead on passes in his last game.
He came back again as a sub yesterday with the game winning assist and won some free kicks for Giovinco in dangerous areas. The tone of of the game changed when entered.
Another 30 minutes and another goal. Looks like Josmer will not have any trouble reclaiming his spot in the Toronto team.
http://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/ma...ston-dynamo-vs-toronto-fc/details/video/86187 Jozy with another goal and his first start since his return. He was dangerous the whole 70 he played. I think he is going to start the next qualifier.
This is the thing - great read on Jozy. It has been said over and over again. He is not a world beater, but right now, he's among our best, and certainly he is our most proven CF at the moment. Wood, Morris any number of players can play that slot. Heck Green might even turn out to be effective there - who knows. But Jozy's scoring numbers, save his early career and a dreadful year on a dreadful team have been fairly consistent. Give the guy enough ball he will score more than many. But when Jozy is healthy and plays on a team where he is not the only attacking option his ability to hold up, draw double teams, get to the corners when needed, unleash a long-range shot now and again, track back for the ball and poach a bit make him reasonably valuable. Glad to see him back. Now he's got to re-earn the slot.
I don't think so. Wood brings more to the table as an all around player. He can chase, chase, chase and chase. And we looked much better with Dempsey and Wood up top than we have any time recently with Dempsey and Altidore. Further, it does not appear that Jozy is a 90 minute player. I think we can expect Jozy on the field as a sub for Dempsey at 70+ going forward.
I'll go with Altidore, who passes and scores better. Here is a nice article from Doyle on Josmer http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2016/...jozy-altidore-healthy-and-scoring-goals-again
that's how weak we are up top. Hopefully Wood can adapt to the Bundesliga and score a few goals and provide great competition to Jozy
I think Jozy and Wood compliment each other while that isn't the case with Dempsey. It's not Gerrard + Lampard dysfunctional but it's certainly not force multiplying. Jozy and Dempsey should naturally trade off for the same spot, it's probably how we get the greatest return out of our most dangerous finishers. Jozy has been playing "under" Giovinco since he came back and with Wood/Morris stretching the backline that's most of a plan.
Jozy Altidore - I am warm, for your form. He's got it going heading into qualifiers. Just scored an impressive goal, displaying his strength, and some deft skill as well. Won a post up, turned quickly, held off players on both sides, including fellow U.S. int'l starter Alejandro Bedoya, and jabbed it in the corner with the outside of his boot. He had very little margin for error, and he didn't make any. His hold-up play started the 1st goal for Toronto. Then he played Giovinco in with a well weighted, angled, and seen through ball to Seb, who uncharacteristically missed. Should have been an assist. Making his case to move back into a starting role, especially against the type of opposition coming up which he feasts on, and against whom we're not going to be playing in much space. More his type of game than Wood's, who likes to play in some space.
I think this def part of it. Jozy and Dempsey don't fit well together. Jozy needs to play with a striker like Davies use to be and Wood/Morris are. He will pair well with them. The question is will JK be down to play with 2 up top? Will Dempsey be open a sub role? He should at his age he's not a 90 minute player. 30 minutes would be prime.
http://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/ma...lphia-union-vs-toronto-fc/details/video/86569 There goes that man again.
The highlights of Toronto's last 2 games are like a "this is what Jozy does best" highlight reel. Through pass in behind D for Gio. Chest knockdown/pass with back to goal to start move for first goal v. Union. Finding space for goal off corner. Muscling the turn for the 3rd goal. He ain't Ruud, but he's among the best we got at the moment.
LOOK at this pass. http://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/ma...lphia-union-vs-toronto-fc/details/video/86552 You are correct about the show Jozy is putting on. The passes he has dropped on Gio (some that he has blown btw) the last couple of weeks are stark reminders of why he needs to be on the field even when he is not banging in the goals. For me, if he is healthy come qualifying, he is a shoo in starter.
But he and Dempsey do not play well together. They play in too similar a style. And we need Wood on the field for his energy and pace. So do we play all three up top?
I would expect you would use any combo of the 3 depending on situation. Demp has played as a RAM, CAM and LAM as well. We have played unbalanced line-ups in the past (Arena esp) that used a true winger on one side and an overlapping back on the other. You could work all 3 into an unbalanced 4-4-2, a 4-3-1-2 or similar. If that is too aggressive for some opponents, use Demp to start - with Jozy or Wood depending on situation/form - and keep the 3 man out for late game sub (maybe Wood due to speed.)
The team balance problem with playing all 3 is that that is not a very creative trio. Both Clint and Jozy have to occupy central areas, so that leaves overlapping fullbacks and either a 4th attacking player (Pulisic) or 2 shuttlers.
