2017 Goalkeeper of the Year Finalists Winner announced: Nov. 16 Andre Blake (Philadelphia Union) Stefan Frei (Seattle Sounders FC) Tim Melia (Sporting Kansas City) I like Andre Blake. If he was playing behind a better defense, I think he could shine. Like Tim Melia, except talented. Well at least they didn't nominate Sean Johnson or Luis Robles, I guess.
I was going to mention him but I'm giving him a break since he is DCU. Recently? He's had this problem at least since Porto.
I am enjoying whoever is running the facebook account's commentary for the mandated postings about playoff games
If I'm gonna read between the lines here, I'm gonna say Julian Buscher is gone. Too bad, I thought he'd grow into a good role player for us (at the very least). https://www.instagram.com/p/BbMUybCn-pf/
I thought so too, but I think that last sub appearance he had before he was sent on loan was the nail in the coffin. He couldn't do anything, and then that one play where he tried to run down that through ball to the corner. Hope he's able to continue his career in the lower German divisions.
He had flashes, but what killed him was a total lack of pace. If he wants to stay in the game, he will be coaching somewhere. Knows the game, just doesn't have the physical tools to play at the MLS level. A later day version of Rod Dyachenko.
I've been told since the very first one that it's a crap-shoot at best. It was more useful (but teams had less experience to use it usefully) back when the league was formed to try to be a majority of American players - since most of them will always come thru colleges. Now that the league has gone a completely different direction who knows how useful the draft will end up being. By the time college soccer is able to get the NCAA to wise up and make the college game better and change its seasons - it may be too late for the draft. Who knows.
FYP. He wasn't a bad gamble, but I thought there were better ones to be had. But yes, "useless" is the way its heading. As we get better at development as a country, we're going to go through a phase where all the MLS quality players will be pros at 19. By the time the NCAA realizes it has become a totally irrelevant wasteland of also-rans, the superdraft may become so pointless it's abandoned. Honestly, that would be a shame for the NCAA and MLS. Late bloomers are a thing, bright and conflicted minds sometimes need a chance to explore. If only the NCAA provided a better proving ground. As contrived as these drafts are, they give a uniquely American feel to the player acquisition process and add a little pomp and circumstance to the enterprise. And, I suppose, on the margins, that's a good thing. EDIT: Wow, great minds, eh FB?
That’s pretty much a truism now. Superdraftees are almost all better off in an off the bench role but all too often they are started right away and sent down a course to becoming middling journeyman.
Mind you every once in a while you can strike lightning in a bottle but days of drafting Eddie Pope are gone.
Didn't follow MLS too much the past two years. Were any of these players more useful? Jonathan Campbell Hadji Barry Kyle Fisher Emmanuel Appiah Cole Seiler Ryan Herman Justin Bilyeu Rodrigo Saravia Ben Polk
