Here are highlights of the RSL broadcast. To say that Dunseth goes nuts on the Boswell PK is a massive understatement. Good stuff.. http://www.realsaltlake.com/video/2015/08/01/highlights-rsl-dc-united-august-1-2015
Toledo almost always finds a way to screw up games, but I think he got the PK right. I don't really understand the fuss either. If I was an RSL fan, I'd be more upset about the play shortly thereafter where I believe Sandoval got taken down from behind in box after Dykstra hesitated coming off his line. I honestly thought that was clear PK too(as did Cassar) and we dodged a bullet. I'd need to see the replay though.
I can't bring myself to listen. Is he blind (i.e. he thinks Sandoval didn't pull Boswell's jersey), or does he not know the Laws of the Game (i.e. doesn't realize that that's explicitly specified as a yellow card offense for Unsporting Behavior).
Well the obvious criticism of their whining is that they GAVE UP FIVE OTHER GOALS! How can you complain at all about a questionable call (even though this wasn't really questionable) when your team had one of the worst defensive performances ever??? Talk about burying the lede.
In the highlight package they don't show the side-on view but only the Southend view. So you can only see Boswell going down and nothing of the jersey pull, since its in the center of the back. So I understand freaking out about it the call.
I gotta go with DeLeon's. The ball that came to Kemp is one you drool for. It's on a nice hop, he knew exactly where it would be, had to time to shuffle his feet and bang. The DeLeon goal is taken off the dribble which means the bumpiness of the field comes into play, which isn't a factor in the volley. But to beat the keeper from that distance on your off foot, that's ridiculous. Lucky, but awesome.
I'll go with the unpopular vote and choose Espindola's. That goal is 0% talent, -10% skill, and 100% wanting it more than the other guy.
If you never see the actual tug, and they seem to try not to, it is kinda comical-looking - though not quite the worst travshamockery of all time as he insinuates. One of the announcers owes Ray Hudson money for using some variation of the line "rises up like a young salmon" The RSL replay shows both Arnaud and Kitchen onside when the ball leaves the foot on that goal you were worried about earlier - now 3/8 of a second before then .... questionable
What did Dave Johnson say on that score that he scored like a crustacean? If that's what he said, I want to put it on an Espindola t-shirt.
Don't agree. I have single-stepped this through on the DVR multiple times, including again this morning. When Kemp sends the ball forward, Arnaud is clearly closer to the six yard line than any defender is.
I actually took that photo and Tweeted it to Kemp. I thought it was hilarious that Olsen looks like he's asleep while everyone else is jumping around. Zach Thornton was always a big guy...but man, he's a mountain now.
The RSL guys clearly say it is not offside, don't go stomping on my joy with friendly fire (plus, it's not a straight angle at all, you could both be wrong effort, duh. But wait - aren't all things in sports supposed to add up to 110%?
Absolutely, the best angle to tell doesn't seem to exist. And hey, I'm not trying to harsh your buzz, that's why I put the subject away -- you're the one that brought it back up! I'd also like to say that based on his childish antics Saturday, I'm really, really happy Beckerman lost. And I'd like to say that I wish there was some way that Morales could have come to DC rather than RSL. RSL shoulda won a lot more.
yep. And I think Toledo was *this close* to showing him another yellow when he wouldn't stop bitching.
I actually saw the whole shot from directly behind Kemp - I could see his foot hit the ball inside out (or rather outside in with the outside of the left foot) and the bend on its trajectory to the net ... it was amazing indeed. It is not very often that you see two golazos like that in one game.
He was definitely offsides but I see most refs these interpreting that as passive. I don't know the exact wording on that rule … just my anecdotal observation from the soccer I watch. And honestly Arnaud would have to grow 6 inches to get anything on that ball so I can see why a ref would ignore it. Whether Arnaud's presence distracts the keeper is another story …
