Well, that was not the start we were hoping for. Edit: Times x2. Can't get too angry about a deflection from thirty yards out
Jara staying too high Fire killing Brilliant for pace when he gets drawn outside. Stupid by Jara and Olsen for not responding. This will end up 4-0 at this rate.
Chicago scored twice. First was on foul, free kick from 25 yards out on the wing, beautiful outswing free kick headed in by Sapong (Hamid got a hand on it but had no chance). 2 minutes later, Chicago still buzzing, some random dude takes a shot from 30 yards out and it deflects off a DC United player and into the net. Chiago is completely outplaying us right now, we have little possession and seem completely shell-shocked.
When Chicago comes forward it is quick and they flood the box. DCU attacks. Y sitting on the perimeter waiting for someone to make a run. You cannot score that way. Olsen out.
Gotta keep the lads fresh for the Gold Cup break. Honestly we miss Arriola badly for his runs, and the subs that Olsen tried tonight (which I can't complain that much about with the fixture congestion up to that break) just have not worked.
Ok... Rooney to Segura, got one back before the half. 2-2 At the half!!!! Seems like they woke up. (Edit: Coming back, VAR) (Correct call)
Was that a good call by the VAR, or not? If it was a good call, it hurts, but I won't mind it. If it's a (typically) shitty call, that will make things even worse.
The call by VAR was fine. Titi played the ball, it deflected off the goalie, and as he was running by the goalie the ball hit his bicep once or twice, keeping it in the air. It wasn't intentional, but it is the sort of thing the offensive players get called for most of the time. I'd be pissed if it weren't called on a player scoring on us.
I hate VAR whether it helps or hurts us. It still results in questionable calls...because human referees judgement and interpretation of LOG are involved. As a fan I'd rather swallow the bitter pill of spontaneously wrong choices by center ref and AR.
It sucks that we had to have the tying goal called back, but if it was the correct call, I'm ok with that. We've been screwed by bad VAR calls before.
