Oh, look, another road game! What: DC United @ Seattle Sounders When: Saturday, June 9, 2200 Where (to watch): News Channel 8, CW Richmond Why: To crush Seattle and get another 3 points on the road. Yep. Seattle is garbage. They can't score. They have an awful road record. Lodiero will be there, though, since he didn't make Uruguay's final World Cup squad. Prediction: 2-0 DCU.
2-1 DCU Victory. DCU take the early lead on a Seattle own goal. Then we allow the lowest scoring team in MLS to score and tie it up 1-1. In the 2nd half, Seattle somehow get 2 red cards and we score the game winner in stoppage time playing 9v11.
DC needs points in this one. For road games on the West Coast there won't be many better opportunities.
3-1 DCU or 0-4 - I'm a bit up in the air. We played pretty well the last 2-3 games and then we laid that rotten egg against NC - Coaches always want us to believe attitude matters as much as skill so maybe they jut had a dismissive attitude about NC - we'll see. If they play like that, it'll be the latter score - if they play like against San Jose, it'll be the former. either way, I hope they don't slip as much on that wet plastic as they often seem to do.
I'll say 1-1. DC gets out early but gives up an equalizer on a blunder. Probably to be scored by Lamar Neagle.
I project a: 50% chance of drawing 40% chance of winning 9% chance of losing 1% chance of the game being mercifully interrupted by the apocalypse
But seriously, it's probably even odds of a draw or win. Seattle's form's considerably worse than ours, but it's offset by the headwinds of an extra 30 minutes in our midweek game, flying across the country, playing on bad turf in front of 30000 enemy combatants, and facing the team that invented headwinds.
This should be three points. Anything less would be a disappointment. Seattle are essentially doormats in freefall. james
Despite sucking Seattle has drawn 39,000+ on average over 5 games. Even with a match that makes a turd in a punch bowl look attractive they'll probably do the same attendance wise. United should savor the opportunity to play in front of crowds that big, and try not to embarrass themselves
A lot of gesturing between Arriola and Acosta at different periods -- not on the same page? And Mattocks -- I'm becoming a believer, but I think he made the wrong decision every time he was given a choice that half.
Pleasing 1st half. Seattle can’t high press DCU because they’re old, fat, and slow so Fisher hasn’t been exposed. Acosta hasn’t been responsible with the ball in the defensive half and Matyocks has feet of stone. We have a chance here. These are the kind of conditions where Mullins could thrive. Hope to see him soon.
A lot of the blame for that goal should go to the stupid zonal marking we do defending set pieces in the box. There was no one at the top of the box where the ball bounced out to.
