It was a scrappy but entertaining game. Strange feeling but I enjoyed it and was glued to the screen watching how everything developed. Stranger still...I felt like giving Fischer the MOTM trophy for managing to contain Piatti all match. Never thought those words would come out of my mouth but he earned it.
Couple interesting links: https://www.americansocceranalysis.com/by-game-2018/ On the expected goals chart at American Soccer Analysis, we outplayed Montreal, but only by about 0.4-0.6 expected goals. (It expected about 1.75 goals for Montreal and 2.1 to 2.3 for DC, depending on which model was used.) http://www.sportsclubstats.com/USA/MLS.html According to a randomized (other than home/away) simulation, this result affected our playoff odds almost not at all. I was thinking it would maybe hurt us, coming as late as it does, when we're a bit behind, but not really; we actually have an 0.2% better chance after the result than before.
I did not read Olsen's post game comments, but this exact scenario plays out all the time for DCU teams under him. Even worse, his post game comments tend to praise the team for finally gathering their composure and holding the ball when we know it was the other team just tapping the brakes. It shows me that he just doesn't even know what he's seeing out there -- or trying to pull the wool over our eyes at best.
