We had a chance to grab that Mueller kid in the last draft. Dang. Maybe we should have. I like him: a) He plays his guts out b) He's a fellow Wisconsin Badger c) He pronounces his family name correctly, in stark contrast to someone more . . . famous (cough)
he was flapping his arms a lot though...seriously, Arriola is a very good player, but he needs to get the whiny crybaby thing under control
Props to the Orlando fans — they really brought it and had a lot with their team getting back in this one.
Can't really point to any player who had a complete performance. Rooney clearly made the biggest difference with the few chances he had. Brillant and Birnbaum did well despite being under pressure the entire 2nd half. You can't say that Hamid had to make too many saves, which says a lot about the backline staying strong. Probably also says a lot about Orlando just not being that good. I thought Jara, Arriola, Canouse and Acosta all looked below their standard today. The important thing is the 3 points. While Orlando might not be a top team, that's still a really tough atmosphere to go to. That stadium was rocking.
Most other years, that would’ve been the beginning of the end for this team. Thankfully, this is a different DC United.
Glancing at the Eastern table is smile-inducing. I don't know what tickles me more: DCU in first place Atlanta Copycats in last place Pink Cows below the playoff Mendoza line Decisions, decisions . . .
Wow. We really had to suffer during those last 20 min or so, but mission accomplished. This shows that we still have long way to go toward being a complete team. If I'm going to be critical: I was disappointed on the conceded goal. I think Dwyer was the only Orlando player in the box, and we still lost him. Sad. Our ability to hold the ball and distribute from the back and Dmid areas was poor in the second half. The Robinson sub did not seem to be helpful. He seemed to get in the way more than he helped on some of those high balls. I don't blame the player, it apparently was not the best coaching decision. Overall, great job getting the 3 points on the road.
Another angle showed he did not avoid it, if his foot is planted and leg straight, that is a knee injury.
Robinson didn't help at the end. Tried to do too much and got in McCann's way twice. I'm really surprised that Olsen didn't put Durkin in at that point because defensive positioning and ball control was needed. Robinson didn't provide either. First half good, second half not so good. I hope Mora isn't out too long. McCann is adequate, but he's not Mora. You could see the attack become more right sided once McCann came on. I think that permitted Orlando to cheat a bit on defense because they knew McCann wasn't going to beat them on the wing like Mora. I think Villareal reffed a chippy game. Should have been a PK when Rodriguez was leveled in the box. Does any ref in the league use more product in his hair than Villareal? My wife thought whatever was on his head couldn't be real.
I would add it seemed like we were not adventurous on the right, either. Maybe because Nani, who we turned into a non factor. Battle won, in any case.
Wayne Rooney, on Dom Dwyer foul leading to second goal: "I see him coming and I got out of the way because if I didn’t, it could’ve been a serious injury. As the referee said, it’s intent. I’m not stupid enough to stand in there and let him try to take my knee off." #dcu— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) April 1, 2019
What a beautiful goal! What an ugly win (but I'll take it). ---- A white jersey with really light gray stripes over really light gray shorts with black stripes? I think the new away shorts are really light gray like the stripes on the jersey rather than white. They look like originally white shorts that turned a little gray when they got mistakenly washed with black jerseys. I can't find anything official about the shorts online that would confirm their color...
You're right. Those assholes suck. Props to the Orlando team for getting back into the game in spite of all the noise their supporters were making. It must've been really distracting.
Every. Single. Time. I heard his name mentioned, I thought of Ben Stein saying "Bueller? . . . . .Bueller? . . . . .Bueller? . . . . ."
I wish DCU used red or even black shorts to provide a little contrast. I'm just not a fan of the ghost look. I can get past the all white kits if the shorts have the team color. But white on white (or light gray) is just lazy/boring.
Those jerseys look like someone ironed logos onto a Fruit of the Loom undershirt. Hope Mora is OK. It was a relief that McCann was decent. This is Wayne's team, for sure. Vamos!
The way tv networks mike supporters sections and the stands in general I can never tell if fans are really bringing it or not.
I’m usually in agreement with you when I stop by, but in this case the midfield for DC played one of their worse games in a while. Acosta was way below par. He constantly overplayed the ball. Pass after pass was over hit and he constantly lost possession. It was a very un-Acosta like game. But the poor midfield play was just not limited to Acosta. The whole midfield I thought were poor or sub-par.. Arriola just did not have an impact on his side of the field. The other wing Rodriguez had a pretty good game but that was about it. If you take away Rooney’s brilliance in this game in the first half there isn’t a whole lot on the offensive side to see as positive. The only half decent play was in the back with Hamid and our two center backs to a lesser extents the outside backs. The defensive mid were ok on the defensive side of the ball on the first half and less so on the second. In holding the ball or springing an attack they were just ineffective. All in all a good result but the performance was badly something to sing about.
