Where: by the shores of Lake Ontario When: 6:00 EDT Saturday, October 19th TV: Univision Why: Playoffs?!? in which the league requires 7 teams participate from each conference Prize: a date with NYCFC in Queens How: DCU live stream or TUDN Will DC get over that horrendous performance against Cincinnati? Will Jozy be available for Toronto? Is this a game destined for PKs after a 0-0 tie?
I may have been too critical. I like DCUs chances after 120 minutes of play. Witnesses the firepower of a fully armed and operational Bennyball
Game moved to 6 Toronto FC v D.C. United playoff on Oct. 19 will now start at 6 pm, not noon. No reason given. Local TV in DC tbd. #mls— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) October 8, 2019
All of the games were shuffled around probably for field conversions more than the ability of being able to watch every game. ********ed my plans for the day though.
Interesting personal wrinkle for #DCU CB Steve Birnbaum: his first child is due the day of DC’s opening-round playoff game in Toronto. Tells me he & his wife are game-planning it now & he’d hoped DC would’ve had a home game, making it less of an issue - we’ll see what happens!— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) October 6, 2019
Mark the shit out of NDL. He's got this tendency for meaningful goals. Thankfully, he also has a tendency for meaningful misses, too, but still.
How has your guys experiences been with watch parties? We were thinking about making a trip to DC to watch. One thing that has always bothered me about watching a game in a bar is the lack of sound. Do they have the game blasting at these things?
Oddly enough, I like our odds versus Toronto better than against Red Bull home or away. Force Bradley to run and we could come back with a WIN.
If you're going to a watch party, don't expect to listen to the commentary. (For better or worse....usually for the better.) I just stopped going to them because every time I've gone, the team I was rooting for (USA, Germany, Italy, DCU) lost. Clearly, I must watch from home or nothing.
He doesn't run, he just walks around shooting dirty looks at people based on what I've seen of his game.
If there is any serious karma floating around... The game would go to penalties, and he he scores the winning one against us sending us packing. Boy the irony would be thick on that...
So we are chartering to Toronto ... why? AA has 3 directs to Toronto from DCA and I'd be surprised if Air Canada didn't have at least that many. I am all in favor of the team spending to boost performance, but I don't think this was the one trip that needed/demanded it like the trip back from the west coast before the Red Bull game was the one time I'd have EXPECTED a charter. Its almost like this is a reaction to the backlash of the last 4-6 weeks.
I believe they are, because I can remember reading a past article where someone talked about saving them for the playoffs. That said, we've used none of 4. This usage doesn't seem to make sense for even this trip. I'd use them coming home to accelerate recovery and add to the rest the players get recuperating for the next game.
I'm just happy that they are finally using charters. I don't care too much about why. As one who sits closer to the back of the plane than the front, does chartering make life easier when going through customs?
If Benny can't be counted on to remember how many subs he has to use, do the think the FO would remember how many charter flights they have?
Air Canada, United and Porter Airlines all have flights to Toronto too, you are probably talking about 15-20 flights at least per day total among these 4 airlines, the only reason I can think of is that most of these planes are small (I flew to Toronto a couple of times and I believe to recall planes were smaller than a 757).
