Benfica develops young players very well.

There's another American center mid already on their books.

You'd think after once before picking up an former DC United midfielder (now playing in Las Vegas), they'd be wary about getting another one. :p

Actually, Adu went to Benfica from RSL -- not DCU.

Yep but he was still a former DCU midfielder when Benfica picked him up.

Wiki may not be 100% up to date, but it says that as of yesterday, there are NINETEEN internationals that somehow need a roster spot, and there are not that many open international spots available.

is it possible MLS has allowed additional spots to each team and just no one knows, or is that something defined in the CBA?

I don't think so. In previous seasons I remember signings still trickling into the league even after the season starts. I think the roster freeze is somewhere in early-mid April or thereabouts.

The wiki page pasted the 2017 rules from the MLS site, stating that there were 176 total roster spots, but the chart from the same page shows 184 total spots. Unsure how much I trust that page now.

Also kind of odd MLS posted it's 2017 roster rules on Feb 1, 2017, but there is nothing for 2018 yet.

EDIT NVM - forgot LAFC and their new 8 spots.

I think all that means is being under the cap, with the correct amount of international slots, under 30 players on the payroll etc ...

Teams can still continue to sign players as long as they remain compliant.

I asked Goff via Twitter, and he says that United currently has no international roster issues.
