Yep that's him making a defensive and attacking 40 yard runs followed by a long cross on target. My kind of retirement.
I'm happily eating crow on rooney. I was not totally against it but also not sold on his signing when they did it. He's been awesome and inspiring!
Piotr Nowak was at the game tonight with Dave Kasper. Wonder if he was just visiting or there for other reasons.
Ha! He actually gave me a really friendly pat on the shoulder when I made a comment about how he should be allowed to get on a full elevator (I was the only one to recognize him) and he asked me how I was doing. I've randomly seen him at games off and on for years and he's always been more than friendly when I've said hello.
oh Nowak. his calls to the barra the day after the golf tournament with boswell.com still one of the best things ever. what did you do to my player! hahahahahha I still think Bobby is hungover today from that.
DC United taking advantage of last night's game to market tickets for the other two games this week? I'm impressed. Same, this moment really can be a turning of the corner for the franchise. We really need to steamroll NE on Sunday to capitalize.
I never thought Rooney was a bad signing, maybe a tad cynical by the team just thinking this would fill the seats. But at this point I have forgiven him for all those years he spent at ManU. Everybody makes mistakes.
Well, I don't think James Corden makes a reference to any other DC United player doing the same play. Not that my world revolves around such things. But, it definitely provided interest outside the DC bubble. (Note: On Twitter, Rooney congratulated Acosta on his hat-trick).
Ironic, he's prolly sold fewer (filled) seats than they hoped and he's played better than most of were anticipating.
Rooney's play last night in the 96th minute was truly astonishing, especially after his first 95 minutes of garbage.
lol. amazing what you can see and think when you've already determined what that will be before actually seeing and thinking
I'm confused. Are you referring to the "garbage" assist he had on Lucho's first goal? The "garbage" header he put in the back of the net that was only called back because the guy who passed it to him was offside? Or the very-obvious and much-needed "garbage" leadership he's showing on the field? My kids asked me what I thought when we signed him. I said it depends. If we get a guy who came here for retirement and to experience a new country, it's not going to go well. If we get a guy who wants to win, he'll be a hell of a pick up. I think it's pretty obvious which we got. It's not going to be perfect every minute of every game, but you can literally see the culture of this team changing before your eyes. Now we just need a center defender with the same alpha dog commitment to winning (aka Ryan Nelson circa 2004) and we could really be on to something...
Omfg what I would give to get someone command the backline like that dude again. One of my all-time favorite players.
Beer cart girl....chasing down KP......amazing day damn I miss those times. We were running out of players that were allowed to play with us, haha.
Alright, I'm gonna use this overly positive post as a sign that Sun. night's effort probably fell somewhere between garbage and awesome I do hope the sparks of leadership I've seen do help, and I realize that may take a little time and he's probably an even better leader in practice than anyone can be on the field every minute of a game with their own job to concentrate on. He seemed very negative and non-motivational for most of the second half, along with almost everyone else on the team. I don't doubt his commitment after a play like that in the 96th minute (or from other things I've seen) so I am becoming more positive about his signing every day. I have believed in this general commitment to the team since his first press conference, just wasn't sure it'd translate to actual play with the team. Remember also, Nelson was not a defender when we drafted him, he was a DMid - so maybe the folks asking for Durkin to move back to defense aren't as misguided as I thought ... I still think he's too small (not that he's really any smaller than our already small defenders) and if he hits the weight room more now that he's old enough for that to matter maybe he won't seem too slight to be back there. He's sure more confident and better on the ball than anyone we've had back there for quite a while. Just reminding us which thread we're in, while we talk about players, that the front office is still a mess of hot garbage.
It may be time for a new thread, this one is like, 2 years old and the FO has changed a lot (for better or worse) since then...
