I ventured to a site that analyzes MLS attendance, pretty neat place. MLS DC United Top Ten Crowds 1. 9/1/01 Tampa Bay at DC United 54,282 2. 9/3/00 New England at DC United 51,996 3. 5/12/01 San Jose at DC United 36,528 4. 4/17/99 San Jose at DC United 35,167 5. 4/20/96 Los Angeles at DC United 35,032 6. 5/12/02 Columbus at DC United 30,413 7. 6/30/01 Colorado at DC United 30,271 8. 4/5/97 MetroStars at DC United 28,749 9. 4/26/97 San Jose at DC United 24,775 10. 8/18/96 Los Angeles at DC United 24,536 DC United Opening Day Crowds 1996 4/20 Los Angeles 35,032 1997 4/5 MetroStars 28,749 1998 3/21 Kansas City 28,749 1999 4/17 San Jose 35,167 2000 3/25 Los Angeles 24,147 2001 4/7 Kansas City 28,749 2002 3/30 Chicago 15,033 2003 4/15 Chicago ? The top two crowds were World Cup Qualifiers. Three of the top ten crowds have been on opening day.
I was at the MetroStars home opener in '97 and the Wizards opener in '01. Curiously I remember the '97 game more(maybe cause I hooked up with a hot chick that night) but it was a fantastic game DC won 2-1 and got the game winner in the last few minutes. I was going through Defense Information School at Ft. Meade and I managed to talk my whole class into going down to the game as a class trip before we graduated. That game made a couple fans I believe. My first trip to RFK and I'm an all out DCU fan now(behind KC of course, but if I ever moved to DC I'd completely capitulate.) Maybe I don't remember the '01 game so much because it was my two favorite teams and I was a little torn. No, it was the chick.
Yeah, Kenn's site is an excellent resource. I'm curious what the conclusions will be when he gets those up eventually. DC United's capacity for the 2003 season at RFK is 24k. So, we actually have the potential for some sellouts. I'm hoping the double-header games with the Freedom sell out, and sell out early. That would be great publicity. I honestly think that DC United can average 20k+ this season with so many Saturday night games. It would be awesome if we started selling out consistently like the Redskins. Then maybe we'd get better TV coverage and higher season-ticket sales and force them to start opening up the upper deck. -Tron
I'm sure an acutal Christian could answer this for me, but isn't this year's home opener also on Easter Weekend, just like last years? 50 days to go. Sachin
Question for Zack Thornton: Who ate all the bunnies? Who ate all the bunnies? You fat bastard, You fat bastard, You ate all the bunnies! Ok, maybe it needs some work, but then I'm not an actual Christian, either.
