Expansion side #NashvilleSC has traded for Chicago Fire captain Dax McCarty and #LAGalaxy defender Dave Romney, per multiple league sources: https://t.co/fpiCvFlhbL #cf97 pic.twitter.com/UMWymvjQWD— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) November 4, 2019 Damn spelling error in the title. FWIW - Yes, I see getting Dax for $100k and a draft pick as an absolute steal. Just using past trades involving these teams as a gauge: Romney for $225k, Raheem Edwards for $400k, etc.— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) November 4, 2019
Too bad we gave away Mo Adams last season. Good for Dax, if this is what he wanted. Bad for Dax, if we wanted to stay in Chicago. Very smart move for Nas(h)ville. They receive a veteran MLS leader for almost nothing. The Fire open up a fair amount of salary cup, but lose another veteran. This stings more with Bastian's retirement. Hello, Brandt Bronico into the starting line up every game.
Have we started casting for a new Ginger Ninja yet? From Curtain to Larentowicz to Dax, it's one of our most important positions and I'd hate to return to SF without one.
I really wouldn't mind this if we had more options than just Bronico. I hate to say it, but Dax's quality dropped quite a bit this last season. A lot more give aways and a lot less of the decisive passing we saw in his first year here. It could definitely be caused by coaching, but as a similarly aged person myself, he isn't getting any younger.
Hated him when he was with NYRB, really loved him when he came to the Fire, and I am sad that he is leaving. I wish there had been an opportunity to send him off in better fashion - he definitely deserved it.
I loved having an angry ginger Scot in the lineup and will miss Dax. This squad needs some real help in the middle of the park.
Larentowicz had absolutely zero influence on that team, any veteran could fill that role. Cheap veteran slot filler.
0 (I mean, you gotta give Joe a chance, he really can't be judged by the futileness of previous regimes, now he's not doing great by keeping NR and Pauno....)
I like Basti, Niko, Dax ... but in at least 2 of those instances, Basti and Dax (maybe even Niko)...there is a real chance to upgrade the backbone of the team. Now, the team has many other deficiencies, but if (big IF) the backbone of the team is actually upgraded, then their departure is for the best (from the club's perspective). I really liked all 3 TBH :-(
Really you have to think of MLS like you are building a U8 rec team lineup where you have your best players down the middle of field. All Designated Players should be Center Mids, Strikers or Center Backs. Let's see what happens? Nothing else to do... Oh I did see Dax commenting on the Atlanta v. Toronto game's aftermath so I hope he can flawlessly transition into broadcasting when the time comes. He speaks well, is full of juicy quotable phrases and pulls no punches which I appreciate and has enough experience to be credible.
