Chatted with U.S. int'l, @bayer04_en GK David Yelldell for a future Q&A on https://t.co/mG9IS8dGG6. #InsiderOnTour pic.twitter.com/kirAQBzak6— NASL Insider (@NASLInsider) January 9, 2016
A fairly quick interview: Levine: Do you follow much soccer back in the U.S.? Yelldell: I watch the national team and any game I can catch. Levine: You’ve spent the majority of your career in Germany, but have you ever thought of playing in the United States? Yelldell: It’s always an option. Now I’m 34 and you never know. It would be nice for me to play in the U.S. http://www.nasl.com/news/2016/01/13...bayer-04-leverkusen-goalkeeper-david-yelldell

34-year-old American keeper David Yelldell made his Bundesliga debut for Leverkusen today. His only #USMNT cap: 2011 friendly vs Paraguay.— Paul Carr (@PaulCarr) May 14, 2016
Could be his first 1st team game since 2011... pretty amazing life to get a fantastic pay check and live the lifestyle of a bundesliga pro without really having to perform for your employer in 5 years.... some people have it made. The dude has probably literally gotten up in the morning... gone to training for a few hours.... probably home by the early afternoon and being paid $100,000's of dollars to go to soccer practice and work out.... Yes, I'm jealous.
and to think he could have been Leverkusen's no1 for a short while if not for that first game he played
Forgotten YA David Yelldell could have a new employer lined up in Germany's 3rd Liga - https://t.co/qJXdy4x4m6 #YanksAbroad— Yanks Abroad (@YanksAbroad) July 8, 2016 It is now being reported in local German news outlets that the 34 year-old American is a likely candidate to man the nets for 3rd Liga club SG Sonnenhof Großaspach. According to regional media outlet Backnanger Kreiszeitung, Yelldell will play in the team's pre-season warm-up game on Saturday against FV Illertissen.
Move to SG Sonnenhof Großaspach confirmed: Die #SG hat David #Yelldell verpflichtet. Er erhält beinen Vertrag bis zum 30.06.2018. https://t.co/23g7XOgTTe pic.twitter.com/TvBrkzoC0D— DORFKLUB® (@sgaspach) July 12, 2016 The Stuttgart-area club announced the signing of the locally-raised veteran keeper on their website, stating "SG Sonnenhof Großaspach has signed David Yelldell today. The 34 year-old receives a contact with the club until June 30, 2018." Yelldell has spent the previous five seasons as a rarely used backup option for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen, taking the field only twice for the senior team, once in the German Cup immediately after joining in 2011, and again in their final league game of the recently-completed season. http://www.yanks-abroad.com/content.php?mode=show&id=11994
Over five years at Bayer Leverkusen, I believe Yelldell's only two appearances came in the first and last games for which he was eligible over that span. He started their DFB Pokal opener in 2011/12 and came on as a sub in the last game of the 2015/16 Bundesliga.
I guess his final game had some sentimental value as it was his Bundesliga debut. Does anyone know if he was ever on the bench for their CL games? I'm honestly surprised he served his full contract with the club since he never played, not even in German cup games.
Soccerway has him at 12 unused subs in UEFA (9 CL, 3 EL). http://us.soccerway.com/players/david-yelldell/38367/
since Dominic Cervi didn't ever get into a game when called up, Yelldell might be the most obscure player with a cap in the last decade.
anyway it doesn't say in therad his origins? is he a german-american or simply a german born American? is his Mom german or were both parents in the US army based in Germany?
Mom is German, Dad is American. Raised by German mom in Germany, mostly (dad moved to Atlanta). http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/201...speaks-about-joining-first-national-team-camp
