Good move for David. Hopefully it comes with a very nice paycheck for him as well.

He's the one on the right.

This guy was the #3 (I think?) on Blackburn just a few years ago, then moved back to Germany. Seems to be moving back in the right direction again.

He's actually playing in the BL2, he's already higher up the food chain than one of our starters at Wembley.

He hasn't played there yet, but will have a good chance to start for Koblenz come August.

He's a good keeper plying his trade in a good league, but there's no way he ever cracks the US squad. Thank goodness we can say that, at one position, it takes World Class to play for the US. He's not that good.

Agreed. Let's just hope that he has the best professional career he can for himself right now. I mean, you never, but we have two relatively young keepers in Howard and Guzan, both who are really good. Honestly, do you really to go much deeper than two high quality keepers?

probably not except we also have Seitz and Hahnemann who could start if necessary (Seitz may end up being better than any of them). Goalkeeper is the one position the U.S. does NOT need any help.

I would throw Reis and Cannon in there if we got desperate. Not that they are bad players, but Howard is elite and Guzan has passed both of them in the pecking order.

Taylor is third in the voting behind Du-Ri Cha

They started the season at -3 points due to financial irregularities in getting their license, so they are a bit better than their position in the standings. Also, as of this season, the 16th place team will not be directly regulated. Instead, that team will play the 3rd place 3. Liga team in a playoff.

I took these comments from the Robles gameday thread.

What about David Yelldell? - is playing at the same level, has more games, and has a better Kicker rating. http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...-09/topspieler_position/1/topspieler_verein/0
Yelldell is a '81 and Robles is a '84. Note: I haven't seen either play beyond a few highlights.

Re: Yelldell switches to 2. Bundesliga club

I have seen Koblenz play 3-4 times this season via streaming and while David's an adequate keeper he doesn't have the upside that Robles has. I also think Robles is flat out better. David is a big, strong keeper with decent hands but is not very good laterally. He has size and reach but if he's slightly out of position he's toast. Just not quick enough. But there is no cross he can't eat up being 6'4" or 6'5". In two separates games, for instance, there was a breakaway where both times he broke down too early, hesitated, and wasn't able to get back into a position to make a stop. He just didn't cut the angle down fast enough. These weren't the prettiest of breakaways for the attacked either. If I remember correctly one scored and the other miraculously fired off the post. Now that I think about it, David very much reminds me of Zach Thornton. Not as heavy, just big, has some good points in his game, but it doesn't translate well to the international game. He's a keeper that will always have a job, especially in the 2. Bundesliga but probably not as a starter in the BL (back-up probably) or internationally.

I appreciate that well-formulated analysis. I had Robles' vertical in mind and figured it was based on upside.

Yelldell's knee injury not as severe as was initially feared and he should return in January.
