I have an update! Barbir started for Stoke U23 today in their "Premier Division 2" opener against Newcastle U23. I'm not sure if that means that Barbir is officially on the books at Stoke. Can clubs use trialists in official U23 games in England?
I think so. Tottenham appears to be using a trialist (TR) as a backup GK: Good evening! We're at the Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground, home of @SunderlandAFC U23s, for tonight's #PL2 opener. Here's our line-up... pic.twitter.com/2LTfbDtCD6— Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) August 11, 2017

It looks like Danny has been with Stoke for a little while....in the web-site news section, he played on June 20th and also August 3rd - who knew - The team roster (U23) does not show him....his to old for the U18 and not ready for prime-time - so its a puzzle. Over a month is a little long for a trial.....Transfermarkt still has him as Free...I guess we wait and see??
I wouldn't necessarily say that. Many established U23 Premier League players aren't yet ready for the rigors of leagues such as MLS and Barbir only played sporadically for West Brom U23. Getting regular playing time in a league like the USL seems like a good move for him developmentally. I do note that his contract is only until the end of the season so it may not be a long-term landing spot.

He is still listed with the AFC Astra's first team, but it looks like he has not made any appearances this year.
Lol. Wasn’t expecting this thread bump. He’s a player that will go down in the Luis Gil, junior Flores, etc mold.
Remember Danny Barbir? Astra Giurgiu (Romania) loaned him to Sandhausen this spring, where he started for their reserve team in the Verbandsliga Nordbaden (regional sixth division).— Jamie Hill (@_jameshill) June 12, 2019
Has signed with Sporting KC 2, the artist formerly known as Swope Park. (Do people still get the "the artist formerly known as" bit in 2020?)
Found out his cousin is the kicker for Liberty (Alex Barbir) that hit the game winner in the bowl the other day to beat undefeated Coastal Carolina.
He really stood out to me as one of the better players on the field, at least in possession, in the Oakland Roots vs Monterey Bay USL game I was at a few weeks back. Didn’t realize who he was until I actually read his name on the match sheet of tonight’s game earlier.
I thought this dude was gonna be a sure fire NT player. I thought West Brom was really going to give him a path to play too. I mean there's still time, but I think he's going to end up in the Will Packwood category.
