    My Superliga report is going to be very short this time, because I'm on vacation and we are going to have midweek games as well. But It's looking more and more tight at the bottom of the Superliga after AaB Aalborg surprisingly managed to beat Brøndby away.... or perhaps it was not as big a surprise, since Brøndby were missing their absolute Star player at the moment Michael Krohn-Dehli, who was serving a match ban, and with no Krohn-Dehli, Brøndby lack both the creativity and flair they need to create the big opportunities. But in any case, Morten "Duncan" Rasmussen was finally sharp and on target for AaB, and if they can rely on more goals from him, they may still save themselves from relegation, because the other bottom and mid-table teams seem happy to hold eachother to a draw at the moment... At the very top of the table, FC København beat FC Nordsjælland 3-1, though they were in a bit of trouble in the first half, where young Andreas Laudrup impressed for the home team by making an excellent assist when FCN took the lead as you can also see in the highlights below. Unfortunately for the home team, Jesper Grønkjær is really on fire for FC København at the moment, also making two great assists in this match, not to forget Superliga topscorer Dame .N'Doye.

    As you wrote Ceres it was a perfect round for Aab. Winning themselves and at the same time the competitors in the bottom section not quite getting the results. So it´s not over yet. Thanks for a great report again!

    AaB won again tonight and will spend the night above the relegation line for the first time in a long time, but I'm sure Ceres will talk you through all of it once the match day has been completed tomorrow.

    Superliga 2010/11, round 26 (of 33) :

    Team of the week according to Danish TV2 Sport :
    No 'Team of the week' for the midweek rounds

    Lots of Superliga rounds being played in the Easter holidays, so I will keep focus on the more important games... OB Odense surprisingly lost 1-2 at home to FC Nordsjælland, with the former OB Odense player midfielder Matti Lund Nielsen scoring the two highly important goals for the visitors, that could save them from relegation in the end, while the OB Odense loss both showed how terribel inconsistent they have been this season and why FC København are able to win the Danish Championship so easily this season, because by this Odense loss FCK managed to take home the Championship, with no less than 7 rounds left to play which has never been done before in the history of the Superliga. Of course it's not all Odense, Brøndby and FC Midtjylland fault that it has been so easy for FCK this season, since FCK have only lost one match so far, but their main rivals have been much to inconsistent to be a threat, and for different reasons both inside and outside the pitch. So I will congratulate FCK with a more than highly deserved Championship :) , and just say, that non of the other teams really deserve to play in the 3rd Qualifying Round for Non-Champions, because they have quite simply not been good enough this season. But lets hope for the miracle, that they somehow have been able to raise their level when the time comes.

    As for the relegation battle, then it has become more and more intense and exciting as this season has progressed. After the winter break Randers looked strong at first, but now the players suddenly seem to be almost paralyzed by fear of relegation, based on their own experience last season, because their director and players now keep comparing this season to their impossible "Houdini" escape last season almost like a mantra, saying that they are now in great danger of relegation, because the other clubs are winning their games, so it could almost seem like last seasons lucky escape seriously has come back to haunt them and make them look very fragile in the final rounds of this seasons relegation battle. The opposite seem to be the case for AaB Aalborg, now that their reinforcements finally seem to have setteled and are doing the job. Because it was their winter signings securing the away win in Brøndby and also in this rounds 4-1 home win against Randers. Kayke Rodrigues, Anders Due and Morten "Duncan" Rasmussen were scoring the goals, while Michael Lumb made the excellent assist for the goal by an injured Jeppe Curth just before he was replaced by the only 16-yo Lucas Andersen who quite frankly has been highly impressive in his first few Superliga games this season, despite his very young age, and makes you think of a young Jesper Grønkjær, or at least the most promesing AaB talent since Grønkjær. In any case, AaB seem ready for the last relegation rounds, while other teams now seem in bigger trouble, like Randers and Lyngby. But the relegation battle has really become unpredictable, which only makes it even more intense and exciting.

    The Aab win has rather surprisingly left Esbjerg at ther very bottom of the league, because they lost 0-3 away to Brøndby in this round, in a match that seemed more even than the final result imply. While Esbjerg have been picking up points the last several rounds, Brøndby have been more up and down, so it was a very good win for Brøndby and perhaps especially good for American international Clarence Goodson, who has been out with a long-term injury at his new club, but now finally was able to play the full 90 minutes and even score the first goal by an excellent header. He has also quite unusually become vice-captain of the team, despite hardly having played for the club. but that may have to do with the fact, that Brøndby want to cleanse the team by getting rid several players in the summer, while they have signed Goodson because they expect him to be a key player in the future. So it's no doubt good for him to get this vote of confidence from the club, and also know that his injury has not set him back or made the club doubt his abilities. In the absence of Michael Krohn-Dehli who was serving a match ban, it was especially the highly praised right back/winger Daniel Wass who once again showed how valuable he is for Brøndby.

    As for Michael Parkhurst at FC Norsjælland, he has now recovered from injury, is back at training and will soon be ready to play Superliga again as you can see in the clip below :

    Yes indeed, congrats to the mights of Copenhagen FC! Seemingly strolling to yet another Championship with considerable ease. Even if Aab wouldn´t manage staying put in th Top flight, they still have done very well late on and kudos to them to. I certainly hope they stay. So that they can have the honour to meet their brothrs sin Aarhus the coming season.

    Thanks Ceres for these utterly professional reports of the best league in our region!

    With Kind Regards Mårten

    Superliga 2010/11, round 27 (of 33) :

    Well, the Easter holidays are over and it became an absolutely terrible few rounds for Randers and their now former head coach Ove Christensen who was voted 'manager of the year' in Denmark last season for saving Randers from relegation in the Superliga, but got fired by Randers after first losing to AaB Aalborg and then in Brøndby by a disastrous combined score of 1-8. It oc course didn't help the matter that Christensen, who is know for his bad temper, also lost it after the match, when he was clearly not in the mood for a reporters silly and relentless questions about his future at the club and about if he was going to quit or get fired. So in the end he smacked the reporter on the shoulder as an aggressive and sarcastic way of saying "good job". This awkward moment would prove to be Christensen's final act as Randers manager, though, as he was sacked on Tuesday. You can watch the last bit of the incident here : http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/26/ove-christensen-fired-hit-reporter_n_854016.html

    As for the match itself, it was a more even than the result may imply. But as I have written before, then Randers (and Yura Movsisyans) "Houdini" escape in last season relegation battle, now seem to have come back to haunt them, because they started making silly defensive mistakes and seem almost paralyzed by fear of relegation, when they fell behind. So in the end it became an easy win for Brøndby and an excellent playing Michael Krohn-Dehli, who was back after his two-match ban, playing from start. It was also yet another good 90 minutes for Clarence Goodson in central defense.

    Another club that had a very bad Easter was Esbjerg, first losing 0-3 in Brøndby and then 0-1 at home to FC Midtjylland, though they can hardly fire their new head coach Jess Thorup, who otherwise has done fairly well after he took the job when Ove Pedersen quit not long ago. To add to Esbjerg's misfortune, their experienced defender Thomas Gaardsøe has suffered an injury that will keep him out for around a month. Very bad timing, considering how they are doing in the relegation battle and that they are also playing Danish Cup Semi-finals at the moment.

    The most entertaining match of this round was probably in Farum, where the visitors from AaB Aalborg managed to hold FC Nordsjælland to a 3-3 draw, despite the home team clearly dominating the first 60 minutes or so. but the young FCN team let their more experienced looking visitors off the hook, again with the help of striker Morten "Duncan" Rasmussen who really has come to the rescue and seem on fire right now. Though also their American international Chris Rolfe who came on as a substitute for Anders Due in the 60th minute, should be praised for his performance and an excellent goal as you can see in the highlights below. After missing almost a year with injuries he is now finally able to show his worth for the club. So AaB have good reason to be optimistic about the last 6 rounds. If the Danish Cup winner also finish in 1st or 2nd place in the Superliga, in one of the two Champions League spots, then they will play CL qualifiers and their Danish Cup Europa League berth goes to the other Danish Cup finalist...

    However, if the Cup winner finish 3rd or 4th in the Danish Superliga, they participate in the Europa League as Danish Cup winners, so that the 5th placed team in the Superliga get a Europa League berth.

    Superliga 2010/11, round 28 (of 33) :

    Team of the week according to Danish TV2 Sport :
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bOMOu5d994"]YouTube - Team of the week - 28[/ame]

    Nicklas Højlund (Lyngby) - Ruud (OB *5), Mathias Tauber (Lyngby), A.M.Christensen (OB *4), Bengtsson (FCK *4) - Johansson (OB), Würtz (AaB *2), Kasper Risgård (Silkeborg), Due (AaB) - N'Doye (FCK *9), Beckmann (Randers).
    ----

    AaB Aalborg won yet another match, this time 2-0 at home against a FC Midtjylland team, that is more than badly struck by injuries in defense. in fact even their reserves are injured at the moment, so they were forced dig deep and use 17-yo Alexander Ludwig from start in central defense and likewise 20-yo Jesper Lauridsen in left back position, both getting their debut for FCM in the Superliga. So perhaps too difficult a task for the visitors against an Aalborg team with especially Rasmus Würtz impressing in midfield and looking better and better, not to forget Morten "Duncan" Rasmussen who keep creating danger and scoring goals... it seems unlikely, that AaB are going to suffer relegation, though the relegation battle of course is so tight, that it could still go wrong. FCM on the other hand, seem to have lost the fight for the Silver medals and Champions League qualifiers.

    As for the relegation spots, then Esbjerg is the only team that really seem doomed, though they do have their last chance of escape, since they now have two important home games coming up, against FC Nordsjælland and then AaB Aalborg. If they get two good results, they are still in the big relegation drama when they face SønderjyskE away and AC Horsens at home before their last match, away against a Randers team that now is in all sorts of trouble....

    So who are the most likely to go down, besides Esbjerg ?... It's almost impossible to say right now, but personally I still believe that Randers is going down, despite the fact that they have just signed a short-term deal with the highly rated former AaB and FCM coach Allan Kuhn, in hope that he will be able to come to the rescue. But Randers "Houdini" escape in last season relegation battle do seem to have come back to haunt them, like some sort of “irony of fate”, so that they will replace AGF Aarhus in the Danish 1. Division... There is of course also the chance that SønderjyskE is finally going down, but if we go by the statistics, then either Lyngby or Horsens are going down, because it has always been so in the past, that one of the promoted teams suffer relegation. Though it seem highly unlikely that it is going to be Horsens, since if they cant win, they are still able to hold their opponents to a 0-0 draw.

    Superliga 2010/11, round 29 (of 33) :

    'Team of the week' according to Danish TV2 Sport :
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLHlD_gPciY"]YouTube - Team of the week - 29[/ame]

    Jochumsen (Horsens *4) - Sivebæk (FCM), Clarence Goodson (Brøndby), Høgh (Esbjerg *3), S. Jensen (Randers) - Claudemir (FCK *6), Kvist (FCK *9), Augustinussen (AaB), Mehl (Esbjerg) - Lange (Esbjerg), Rise (Randers *5).
    ----

    The relegation drama in the Superliga is intensifying and especially Esbjerg were in need of a win in this round 29, if they were not to be isolated at the very bottom of the league. They have been absolutely horrible at home this season, only able to secure one win in 14 home games, before this round that is. So no doubt the club management and their fans were worried about this home match against relegation rivals FC Nordsjælland... and they did have reason to worry, since it started out as it usually do, with Esbjerg dominating and also creating some huge opportunities, but also shamelessly misusing them as usual. Fortunately for Esbjerg they do have a fairly good team on paper, and Jesper Lange is a real fighter when it really matters, so it not quite coincidental that he was the one scoring twice and became match-winner for the home team, securing their only second home win this season.So now Esbjerg still have the chance to save themselves.

    AaB Aalborg also secured yet another win, this time against Lyngby and Morten "Duncan" Rasmussen has now scored in the past 5 Superliga games in a row for AaB. Unfortunately for the club he is only on loan for the rest of this season and the AaB director of sport has said that they will not be able to afford to buy him.

    At the top of the league, OB Odense is still in the lead for the second Champions League spot and neither Brøndby or FC Midtjylland seem all too consistent, though FCM managed a slim victory at home against SønderjyskE in this round 29. It btw seem that FCM finally have found a new head coach to replace Allan Kuhn, who as you probably remember quit his job. According to the big Danish football website bold.dk, the new FCM coach seem to be 52-yo Chris Turner, who has been the manager of several different English clubs in the past and also took part in a bid to buy his boyhood team Sheffield Wednesday in a £15 million deal that in the end fell through. The former Manchester United goalkeeper is also a personal friend of Sir Alex Ferguson and the rumour is that they have cut a deal, so that Turner may bring some Manchester United talents with him to FCM on loan deals, if he manage to become their new head coach.... read the translated story right here :

    http://translate.google.com/transla...CM-United-samarbejde&sl=da&tl=en&hl=&ie=UTF-8

    As for the American players, then Clarence Goodson was the one who impressed in this round, also making it to the Superliga 'Team of the week' as you can see above.

    ----

    Since ther are only 3 rounds left, I'm not going to give a review of this round, but rather look ahead and give my prediction of how I think the exciting relegation battle is going to end. Silkeborg are able to save themselves, if they get 3 points at home against Lyngby in round 32 and exactly this fact could be the end of Lyngby, because they have a highly difficult schedule, facing Brøndby in round 31 and OB Odense in their last match, so I dont think Lyngby will be able to get more than 2 points in the last 3 rounds......

    On the other hand, I think that it might be enough for Esbjerg to secure 5 points, or at least win two of their last three matches, but they are probably in need of beating SønderjyskE in their next match, if they are to escape relegation and preferably also secure a win in Randers, although Horsens could also get in trouble if they lose in Esbjerg, but Horsens face Silkeborg at home in their last match and at that point the Silkeborg players are probably more or less gone on vacation, because I doubt that they will have more to play for.. So I seriously doubt that Horsens will suffer relegation...

    As for FC Nordsjælland, their next match at home against Randers is indeed crucial, since they face Brøndby away in round 32 and FC Midtjylland in the last round. So they can hardly expect to get good results in the final two rounds, but if they beat Randers, then it is hardly going to be necessary to do much more, since Randers face FC Midtjylland away in round 32 and then the absolute crucial match against Esbjerg on the last matchday, which very easily could decide whether Esbjerg or Randers suffer relegation. However, it is still a possibility that SønderjyskE are going to suffer relegation, if they lose to Esbjerg in the next round .... SønderjyskE face a strong looking AaB team in Aalborg in round 32, and their last match is against a Brøndby team that is still fighting for medals. So for SønderjyskE their home match against Esbjerg seem absolute crucial.

    My prediction is that Silkeborg, AaB Aalborg and Horsens are going to escape relegation, while it does not look good for Lyngby, because they most likely need to secure 3 points in their away match in Silkeborg, which I dont really believe they can do ... So Lyngby will suffer relegation, while the games between Esbjerg, Randers, SønderjyskE and FCN will decide who get the last relegation spot ... So Round 31 is no doubt going to be crucial, since Esbjerg face SønderjyskE, while Randers face FCN. Neither of the clubs can really afford a defeat, and especially Esbjerg need a victory. It should also be said, that Randers only have won one away match so far this season and always have seemed to be in trouble against FCN in the past, so they really have a mountain to climb.

    Ceres, has anyone worked out how many points are likely to be needed to get to safety? How much more does AaB probably have to do?

    Since Randers have just lost to FCN in round 31, then you now need 39 points to be absolutely sure to escape relegation... or in other words, then only top-4 in the Superliga are sure not to suffer relegation at this point... but in reality I think somewhere between 34 to 36 points is needed, depending on the results of Esbjerg and Lyngby.

    Perhaps I should add, that AGF Aarhus picked up 38 points last season, when they suffered relegation, while Randers was the team that narrowly escaped relegation with 40 points.

    As written, then AGF Aarhus already won promotion weeks ago on May 1st and HB Køge is almost sure to get the second promotion spot... they got a 5-point lead on Vejle BK with 3 rounds left to play.

    Superliga 2010/11, round 31 (of 33) :

    'Team of the week' according to Danish TV2 Sport :
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20kWv_qksZM"]YouTube - ‪Team of the week - 31‬‏[/ame]

    Winde (Esbjerg *2) - Pospech (FCK *11), Østli (SønderjyskE), Bjelland (FCN *3), C. Poulsen (Silkeborg *2) - F. Hansen (Silkeborg *2), H. Hansen (SønderjyskE *2), Ørnskov (Silkeborg), Kortegaard (Horsens) - Bolaños (FCK *7), N'Doye (FCK *10).
    ----

    Danish teams are usually highly tactical minded, but not really at the start of a season when they do not feel in any danger of relegation, and in the very end of a season, when they have already achieved their goals, or if they simply need a win at all cost.... and when they finally loosen up, they often abandon the defensive and tactical aspect all together and just attack with all they got, which then lead to some crazy results, like in this round 31.

    FC København have already won the championship, while the FC Midtjylland players probably were thinking more about the Danish Cup final so the match perhaps lacked some of the usual intensity, but never the less became rather entertaining as you can see in the highlights below, with Dame N'Doye making his first hat-trick for FCK in the Superliga, only one day after he chose to extend his contract with FCK by 3 more years. So despite his success, he is not trying to leaving for one of the top-4 leagues this summer, but is rather hoping for more Danish Championships and more CL success with FCK.... Btw, N'Doye now "only" need to score 3 more goals in the last two rounds to reach the 28 goals which is the current record in the Superliga, held by former Danish international Ebbe Sand.

    In the match in Odense, it was AC Horsens who chose to forget about the tactics and just give it a go, when they took the lead no less than 3 times and managed to hold OB odense to a draw. In Silkeborg, it was two quick goals that set the match on fire, when the home team managed to secure a 4-3 win against AaB Aalborg, despite the the visitors taking the lead twice in the first half with two goals by the young Brazilian striker Kayke Rodrigues. Especially his back-heel goal is worth a watch, well assisted by Chris Rolfe.

    In the games between the four clubs who are in more immediate danger of relegation, the teams took a more cautious approach. As usual SønderjyskE seem too experienced in a close relegation battle like this and took home all 3 points against an Esbjerg team than now surely need to win their last two games against Horsens (at home) and Randers (away). No doubt a difficult but also a doable task. In the other match FC Nordsjælland took an absolute crucial 2-1 win against Randers, considering FCNs tough remaining schedule... and it was young Andreas Laudrup who secured the win and all 3 point for the home team. It also was a deserved win, because it was all FCN in the 2nd half of this match, after Randers had been dominating the first 45 minutes, where FCN had trouble dealing with their many crosses. But in the 2nd half there was really not much doubt about who were going to win.... Randers face FC Midtjylland away in round 32 and then got the absolute crucial match against Esbjerg on the very last matchday... So they no doubt hope for Horsens to beat Esbjerg in the next round, so that Esbjerg have nothing to play for in their last match.... my prediction is still that Lyngby seem doomed, while Esbjerg still got the a small chance of escaping relegation, because they face Randers in their last match.
