Still 1 point for Aalborg at least. And also nice to see decent attendance at that game considering their situation. Hardcore supportership I call that.

    Heja Aab!

well, 1 point at home against a team like Silkeborg is of course a bad result, but AaB really played a good match and the new reinforcements seem to fit in and also make their team-mates look better. So AaB now look much stronger than before the winter break... The main reason they did not win, was because they got affraid of losing their slim 1-0 lead in the end, so they suddenly stopped attacking and instead were trying to defend their lead, which was a mistake.

Right now the problem for AaB is the fact that some of their players are too affraid of losing. However, the new players should be able to change this pattern, especially since they have no reason to be affraid of relegation when they have only been signed on short-term loan deals.

Thanks for the info. Ceres. That sounds reassuring indeed. Pity when they met a team like Silkeborg at home though as you wrote. But they at least played better. Typical of a botttom team to be a little wobbly in the end. I guess Aab needs to take some bonus-points against some tougher teams now?!

    Fight on Aab!

    Ceres,
Quick question for you, any news on Chris Rolfe?

Not sure when his contract ends, but would love to have him back in Chicago.

    Thanks!

I believe he has been long-term injured and they are taking it slow, so that they are sure he will be fine when he get to play.

    Superliga 2010/11, round 21 (of 33) :

    AaB Aalborg v FC København, 0-1 (0-0)
    0-1 Cristian Bolaños (76)
    Attendance: 8,765

I dont know what has gone wrong for FC København this winter, but we got yet another poor performance from them in Aalborg against AaB. I have never seen an FCK team in this poor form. Perhaps coach Solbakken has lost focus because he is leaving the club in the summer ?, or perhaps he has lost some of his authority for the same reason, but it was much the same pattern as in their match against FCM. They dominated the first 45 minutes, but clearly lacking sharpness and not producing the big opportunities that they usually would do, while AaB Aalborg looked like the better team in the second half. Never the less a quick counter attack created and finished by FCKs Costa Rican international Christian Bolaños, saved the day for the visitors, while AaB on the other hand misused their best attempt a few minutes later, when an excellen shot by Anders Due struck the top bar. So again AaB just lacked the last bit of luck, which is often the case when you are a team fighting against relegation at the bottom of the league. AaB also suffered the misfortune of getting their former Superliga topscorer Jeppe Curth injured early in this match, which clearly was not to their advantage either and could become a problem in the games to come.

    2-1 Izunna Uzochukwu (28)
    2-2 Morten Nordstrand (61)

Last week FC Midtjylland highly impressed at home against a poorly looking FC København team. But in this match it was actually the visitors producing the better opportunities and dominating most of the match, which perhaps also underline how poor shape FC København are in at the moment. It was a rather entertaining match, since both team likke to play some attacking minded football, but for the home team it was mainly some good solo-performances rather than good team play, that was the reason why they were able to hold the visitors to a draw, and again I need to mention their young Nigerian Rilwan Olanrewaju Hassan who keep impressing.

Of course it was not to the advantage of the home team that they were forced to make some major changes in defense at half-time, replacing both their captain Kristian Bak Nielsen and Erik Sviatchenko with Christian Sivebæk and Kristijan Ipsa, which may have disrupted their game plan quite a bit. FCM have changed their style of play this winter and are now playing 4-1-3-2 system, with more attacking minded full backs and more short passing upfield by the defense and the holding midfielder. So making big changes in defense could easily disrupt the flow, which probably is what happened to FCM in this match. FCN on the other hand, should get credit for playing well and then Morten Nordstrand seem to be exactly the reinforcement they had hoped he would be. He could become the one saving them from relegation in the end, since their defense has never looked all that solid.

As always fantastic reports by Ceres!

I am not surprised by the 0-1 for Aab. They will need to retreive all possible energy and effort in the coming matches.

As soon as the weather gets a bit more mild we see the danes coming in greater force to the arenas. Nice to see.

The rumours earlier that Roland Nilsson of Malmö were to leave for FCK doesn´t seem to be more than odd rumour? Malmö FF says they feel a bit awkward about the situation as the rumours doesn´t favour their cause and preperations as they come nearer the start of their season.

    Go Aab!

No doubt the attendance figures will go up in the summer, and ther is still important relegation spots, league medals and Europa Cup spots to fight for/against, but the loss of AGF last season and the lack of real competitors to FCK will be a big blow for the attendance figures this season in any case.

TV2 video clips are apparently being blocked to viewers outside of Denmark Ceres -- they didn't do that before, but they have been doing it this year.

The reason for the blocked highlights is because the rights to show Danish Superliga abroad has been sold to the world’s largest independent distributor of sports programming IMG. In other words, it has become a bit of a commercial nightmare, making it more difficult to show Superliga highlights abroad, though I hope that I have now found a permanent solution to the problem, as you will notice below.... a few minutes from now.

    Superliga 2010/11, round 21 (of 33) :

    OB Odense v Lyngby BK, 2-0 (0-0)
    1-0 Rasmus Falk Jensen (73)
    2-0 Rune Pedersen (owngoal) (76)
    Attendance: 6,909

    Lineups and match stats

OB Odense have rid themselves of several expensive foreigners this winter and it seems quite obvious that their depth is not quite as it used to be, so the match against Lyngby was not as easy as you could expect. Lyngby were able to defend a 0-0 result in the first 45 minutes and also able to create a few good opportunities, mainly through the young 19-yo striker and Danish U19 international David Boysen who has joined Lyngby this winter and really impressed in his Superliga debut... Odense looked better than last week, but still seem rusty and lack the last bit of everything, so it took yet another young Danish U19 international to add the sharpness and speed they were in need of to secure the win. Young Rasmus Falk has been compared with the likewise young rising star midfielder Christian Eriksen and the it was easy to see that they have much in common. It only took few minutes for Rasmus Falk to really make a difference in this match after he had replaced Swedish Andreas Johansson in the 61th minute, btw only minutes before the young Lyngby U19 international David Boysen left the pitch, so you could say that it was the "young guns" who made all the difference, since Rasmus Falk was the one who created the opportunities and produced the goals that secured the win for OB Odense in the end.

    Brøndby IF v SønderjyskE, 2-0 (0-0)
    1-0 Mikael Nilsson (51)
    2-0 Daniel Wass (90+2)
    Attendance: 13,085

    Lineups and match stats

Brøndby is usually a rather well playing team, but they probably got the most toothless strikers in the Superliga at the moment, while SønderjyskE usually do well by keeping their opponents from creating all too much, so this became a difficult task for a Brøndby team that also was badly struck by injuries in central defense. Mikkel Bischoff is injured (as usual), newly signed Clarence Goodson suffered a broken toe just before this match and is probably out the next 6 weeks, Remco van der Schaaf also struggle with injuries at the moment, while Max Von Schlebrügge was replaced in the 54th minute of this match for the same reason and you really cant expect a natural right back like Anders Randrup to be a good replacement in that position. So Brøndby really had their problems with a SønderjyskE team that is good at set pieces and also managed to produce a few good counter attcaks, though they didnt manage to get past a well playing Brøndby keeper. Unfortunately for SønderjyskE their game plan was ruined early in the 2nd half, when Brøndby finally managed to score... and if ther is something SønderjyskE are not very good at, then it is being the team that need to push forward and attack, when they are a goal down. However, it was not the toothless Brøndby strikers that saved the day for the home team and the 3 points was secured in two minutes injury-time, when their highly praised right back Daniel Wass once again showed how valuable he is and why he is probably moving abroad to play for a bigger club in a bigger league in the summer, when his contract expires.

    1-3 Jonas Kamper (71)

    Lineups and match stats

Round 21 became last stop for Esbjerg manager Ove Pedersen who had told the Esbjerg management that he would quit his job, if his team lost at home to Randers, which was exactly what happened. Ove Pedersen was the only genuine manager in the Danish league (taking care of both coaching and transfers) and in that sense he is not going to be replaced, but his assistant Jess Thorup is taking over as head coach for the rest of this season. It any case it was quite unfortunate, since it was Esbjerg dominating and looking like the better team in the first 45 minutes against Randers. But the visitors never gave up and while it was Kasper Lorentzen who was the shining Star for Randers last week, it was especially the winger Jonas Kamper who was flying in this match, making a hat-trick for Randers. He came to the club in the summer of 2010, but suffered an injury so that he was not of much use to the club before the winter break. But now he is finally shining just like the rest of this Randers team.

    2-1 Christopher Poulsen (68)
    Attendance: 3,330

    Lineups and match stats

Silkeborg sold their key centre back Jim Larsen to Rosenborg this weekend and since their squad already suffer from lack of depth, not to forget that their topscorer is unhappy and want to leave as soon as possible, then Silkeborg is among the absolut favorites to suffer relegation, so this match at home against Horsens was a must win really, so the Silkeborg coach chose to take a more attacking minded approach than usual, playing 4-4-2, while Horsens were far from the level they showed last week, so it was a quite deserved win to the home team and Horsens only managed to score a goal by chance, due to a rather silly and unfortunate deflection as you can see in the highlights below. Silkeborg are now 9 point clear of a relegation spot, but they still cant be too sure of survival.

Many, many thanks Ceres. The highlights work well and the reports are as detailed and interesting as ever.

Is AGF still looking good for promotion? I was just thinking if AaB is relegated two of the three largest urban areas outside of Copenhagen won't be represented in the Superliga. That can't be good for Danish football.

Here's hoping AGF makes a speedy return and AaB can claw its way to safety.

The Danish 1. Division is on a longer winter break than the Superliga, so it has not quite started yet.... The 1. Division table :
    http://www.bold.dk/fodbold/Danmark/1._Division/2010-2011/program

As you can see then AGF have only lost one match so far this season... and that was 0-1 away to Brønshøj in the very last match before the winter break, when Benny Feilhaber misused a penalty and the rest of the team also seemed to be thinking more of their long Christmas vacation.

This weeks top match between FC København and Brøndby became fairly high paced and very entertaining, but mainly because it was the visitors scoring the first goal and being able to dominate the match in the first 45 minutes. So Brøndby clearly deserved their 1-0 lead before the break. However, FCK head coach Solbakken succesfully chose to replace William Kvist with Costa Rican international Christian Bolaños at half-time, to add some more speed and attacking power in midfield, while also Jesper Grønkjær was able to raise his level in the 2nd half. So FCK took charge and it became a more desperate fight for Brøndby to keep FCK from scoring, while trying to take advantage of a few good counter attacks and set pieces. But after a few league and CL games the FCK players are now looking less rusty and more match fit, so it was difficult for the Brøndby players to keep up and the final result was quite deserved.

    Lineups and match stats

OB Odense are in terrible shape at the moment and do not look like a team that is going to win league medals. In the away match against Silkeborg they were more than lucky to escape defeat, since Silkeborg were clearly producing the bigger opportunities in a physical and poorly played match. Unfortunately for the home team, the penalty (hands) by OB centre back Anders Møller Christensenwas not enough for Silkeborg to secure the win. OB odense were of course forced to push forward in the 2nd half, though not to much effect, while Silkeborg looked sharper when counter attacking. But Djemba-Djemba and Norwegian Atle Roar Håland both saved Silkeborg attempts on the goal-line as you can see in the highligts below, while it was fellow Norwegian Espen Ruud who managed to score an excellent free kick goal in 2 minutes injury-time to save the day for the visitors in the end.

    AC Horsens v Randers FC, 0-0 (0-0)
    Attendance: 3,933

    Lineups and match stats

Ther is not much to say about this match, except that it was a terribel boring and destructive tactical fight on a very poor pitch, just as the result also imply. Statistically the most usual result of a Horsens match in the Superliga is infact 0-0, so we can hardly be surprised. But perhaps we could expect more from Randers when you consider their good results and play after the winter break. Unfortunately for the visitors Frank Kristensen was injured and Randers were mainly trying to play long ball on a very poor pitch. But with no target man to receive and hold up the ball this tactic was of course bound to fail.

Randers have btw just picked up the former AGF Aarhus left back Dennis Cagara for the rest of this season. He was signed as a free agent.

AaB Aalborg were in desperate need of a win against Lyngby, if they were to keep a realistic hope of escaping relegation at the end of this season, so they were attacking agressively from start. But as usual they lacked the last bit of luck, striking the Lyngby woodwork twice in the first 10 minutes of this match, so you could rightfully fear this would go all wrong for the troubled visitors when it was Lyngby taking the lead in the 28th minute. From that point on the Aalborg players seemed nervous and their coach was forced to do some tactical changes at half-time, replacing Chris Rolfe and young Mathias Wichmann with Anders Due and the only 16-yo talent Lucas Andersen, which proved to be a good move, since they very much impressed in the 2nd half, with Anders Due both scoring the equalizer and providing the decisive assist, though it was Aalborgs Norwegian captain Kjetil Wæhler who saved the day an all 3 points in 4 minutes injury-time by taking advantage of the opportunity. So big drama in Lyngby and yet another terrible result for the home team, though the AaB win was quite deserved, since Lyngby were more or less run over in the 2nd half of this match. Last week I was praising the young youth international David Boysen for his Superliga debut (despite Lyngby losing to Odense) and in his only second match he also showed potential by scoring Lyngbys only goal.

Just like it was the case for AaB in Lyngby, then Esbjerg and their new head coach Jess Thorup were in desperate need of a win if they are to escape relegation, and just like AaB they got a terrible start, when the Danish U21 NT winger and former AGF talent Emil Lyng managed to score the quickest goal ever in the Superliga. Only 9.5 seconds and Esbjerg were heading for disaster, but as I have written before, then the FCN defense is not all too impressive and the new Esbjerg coach chose to field the young Icelandic international Arnór Smárason from start, which showed to be a god tactical move, since he was sharp and on target in the 24th minute, well assisted by left back Kevin Conboy who btw unfortunately later suffered a broken nose in a heading duel with Morten Nordstrand in 2 minutes injury-time. Though he should be ready to play Superliga after the NT break.

FCN kept pushing forward throughout the match and were also producing big opportunities, a good attempt by Emil Lyng struck the Esbjerg woodwork right before half-time, but it was Esbjerg taking the lead in the 47th minute due to a huge defensive blunder by the FCN keeper. So by some good fight, Esbjerg managed to secure the win in this rather entertaining match, while its loking bad for FCN, considering their sloppy defense and that their captain Nicolai Stokholm got injured and their key striker Morten Nordstrand was sent off after a clash with Esbjerg centre back Thomas Gaardsøe and is out the next few games (watch the incident in the highlights below). Also Esbjerg suffered some misfortune, since their Danish youth international Martin Braithwaite broke his fibula just above the ankle. So he is going to need surgery and is out for the rest of this season.

    1-1 Sylvester Igboun (38)
    2-1 Kenneth Fabricius (79)
    Attendance: 2,217

    Lineups and match stats

This was a surpringly entertaining match on a surprisingly good pitch and it's even difficult to argue much about the result since both teams produce plenty of good opportunities. Especially man-of-the-match Kenneth Fabricius impressed for the home team, not only scoring two goals, but also making all sorts of trouble for the FCM defense throughout this match. So in other words SønderjyskE keep getting the points they need to survive in the Superliga, while FC Midtjylland seem just as fragile defensively as the rest of the so-called top teams in the Superliga and got just as much trouble scoring goals. As for FC Midtjylland, then I once again need to mention the young Nigerian Rilwan Olanrewaju Hassan who just keep impressing and also made it to TV2 Sports 'Team of the week' for the 2nd time after the winter break.

SønderjyskE have btw just picked up the 23-yo winger/striker Martin Christensen for the rest of this season. He was a free agent after he left Norwegian FK Haugesund.

    ----

In the last Superliga report I was writing, that the most likely result of a Horsens match in the Superliga statistically is 0-0, which is also what happened this week, in their terrible boring match against FC Nordsjælland, so nothing really to report here, except that FCNs American defender Michael Parkhurst got injured and is out the next month with a hamstring injury.... In the last 3 games in a row between Randers and SønderjyskE, the visitors have managed to hold Randers to a 0-0 draw, but While the match in Horsens should quickly be forgotten, the 0-0 match between Randers and SønderjyskE was not quite as bad as the result may imply, but some good goalkeeping by both keepers and some poor finishing at times kept the score down to zero.

As for other trends or tendencies, then ther were no less than 4 goals scored in injury-time in the last round, 3 of them decisive goals I may add. Much the same seemed to happen this week, when Esbjerg managed to secure a deseved 1-1 result against FC København. The Esbjerg players put up a good and agressive fight for every ball and were also producing some good opportunities, but it was a header by Dutch Esbjerg striker Tim Janssen after a corner kick in 5 minutes injury-time, that secured a good result. In Brøndby, Silkeborg got away with a 2-2 result by a goal in the very last minute in Brøndby, despite playing 10 against 11. So a terrible performance by the home team, that let their visitors off the hook and at times were outplayed by a 10 men Silkeborg team. Though on a more personal level, it was an excellent performance by the only 18-yo Brøndby winger Mathias Gehrt who played his first match from start and scored his first Superliga goal for the club.

AaB Aalborg lost yet another step in their figh against relegation, wheh they lost 0-1 at home to OB Odense, despite dominating possession. but fact of the matter was, that AaB had great trouble producing opportunities against a defensive minded Odense team. The 'match of the week' was no doubt the highly entertaining 4-4 drama between FC Midtjylland and Lyngby, where we got just as many goals in ther first 45 minutes as in the rest of the Superliga games of this round put together. The last and only time we have seen 7 goals in the first 45 minutes of a match in the Superliga was in June 1993, when Lyngby were leading 5-2 at half-time against AGF in Aarhus and won the match by 7-3. So this match was close to beating the all-time record. While the match between FCM and Lyngby was highly entertaining, the defending was not all too impressive and the referee was to blame for the mistake of sending FCMs Jesper Juelsgård off for using hands in the box, which then also wrongly gave Lyngby a penalty goal. So a terrible mistake by the referee and no doubt the reason why Lyngby managed to get away with a 4-4 result.

Shame on Aab considering they had a lot of ballposession. But shure they didn´t create too much. Odense though a tricky opponent. Aab still have 9 rounds to fix things....Just lagging 4 points off FC Nordsjälland!

Ther is a strange statistic saying that when the oldest of the young Laudrup Brothers Mads Laudrup scores a goal for his club team, his younger brother Andreas Laudrup is also going to score in the following match for his club FC Nordsjælland. So when Mads Laudrup scored for HB Køge in the Danish 1. Division this past weekend, his his brother promised his team-mates that he was going score against SønderjyskE, which is exactly what happened, and not only once but twice, when he became match-winner is this 2-0 win. so that FCN took a small but highly important step away from the relegation line. Unfortunately for FCN, they suffered yet another injury, so that their Canadian international Patrice Bernier is out for the next 3-4 weeks.

At the very top of the league FC København got an easy 3-1 win against a Randers team that quite honestly did not really look up to the task in this match. So with 9 rounds left to play, FCK are now only two wins away from securing the Danish Championship. The battle for the 2nd Champions League spot is on the other hand still very tight. OB Odense could have taken a 7 point lead to Brøndby by beating them at home. But despite the home advantage and a very questionable red card to Brøndby key player Michael Krohn-Dehli in the 28th minute, OB Odense were not able to take advantage of playing 11 against 10 in most of the match. The 1-1 result between OB and Brøndby could of course be to the advantage of FC Midtjylland, that had the more easy task of facing a Silkeborg team that had just sold their striker Rajko Lekic to New England Revolution this week, for an estimated fee of around $200k. But it didnt seem to matter much that it was FCM having most possession and also creating the big opportunities before half-time, with two of their attempts striking the Silkeborg woodwork, since FCM were not able to score, and then the pace dropped in favor of the home team as the match progressed in the 2nd half, so as it often happen when the team that is pushing forward is not able to score, they get punished in the end, which also happened to FCM in this match, while the big hero for Silkeborg scoring the decisive goal, btw for the 2nd week in a row, was their Faroese international Christian Holst.

The relegation battle at very the bottom of the league now mainly seem to be a desperate fight between AaB Aalborg, Esbjerg and Lyngby and Especially AaB Aalborg seem in deep trouble after their goalless draw at home against the 0-0 specialists from AC Horsens. Aalborg really have trouble creating opportunities and you get the feeling, that Kent Nielsen is the not the right kind of coach to save this team from relegation. Right before this mach he bumped the Brazilian striker Kayke Rodrigues from the team and squad, because he came 2 minutes late. Perhaps not the best move by the coach, considereing, that Kayke is one of few AaB players who have done well of lately and could be the one scoring some needed goals. Unfortunately for AaB, Morten "Duncan" Rasmussen seem to suffer from a minor injury, but the coach is fielding him anyway, in lack of other options. But as you can see, to no effect. Lyngby now also seem to be in great trouble at the bottom of the league. Even though they are able to play a good first 45 minutes, they are in terrible form, throwing it all away in the 2nd half which is exactly what happended in this round, at home against an Esbjerg team that more and more seem on the right track after manager Ove Pedersen quit his job, in favor of Jess Thorup who perhaps is not as a big a tactical geniusis, but better at man managing and coaching the players more individually, which really has paid off.

FC Midtjylland head coach has quit his job !

Quite surpringly Allan Kuhn has now quit his job as FC Midtjylland head coach. According to Kuhn himself, it is for private reasons. But the fact of the matter is, that the FCM management had dictated a new style of play in the winter break, that Kuhn did not seem all too happy about, and since then the results have been poor. It is also known, that the FCM director often chose to buy new players without asking the coaching staff for advice before signing them. So ther could be several good reasons why Allan Kuhn chose to quit.

The new man in charge, replacing Allan Kuhn, is going to be the assistant coach Glen Riddersholm, who is being promoted to head caoch for the rest of this season..

I guess you are thinking of Lyngby topscorer Kim Aabech ? ... well, he has been known to have disciplinary problems in the past, and this past winter he made a deal with Randers, to join them at the end of this season, though without Randers asking Lyngby, which is highly irregular and illegal according to the rules, since he had just extended his contract with Lyngby by 2-years. But with a sell-on clause, that would make it easy for Randers to sign him rather cheaply, or so it seemed.

But before the Danish FA got a chance to really investigate this case, Randers just as irregularly chose to send a copy of his Lyngby contract to all the Superliga clubs, which then of coures also was picked up by the newsmedia... It seems that he fired his agent after he had extended his contract with Lyngby and then gave up the sell-on clause, by getting more $$ from Lyngby and to top this off, this $$ was perhaps not quite "clean", because it could seem he got them 'under the table', not to pay income taxes....

Of course Aabech was not at all happy about Randers disclosing his Lyngby contract for all to see. So the contract he had signed with Randers was torn up. Though straight after, it was revealed that the German club 1. FC Nuremberg now was interested in signing him... So perhaps he is moving abroad instead... In any case, the Danish FA is now trying to get to the bottom of this whole mess. So who knows... I would not be surprised if Randers, Lyngby and Aabech are all going to get penalised to some extend.

    Thanks for the report.

I had heard he is a party boy and lacks discipline. Not a hard worker, but very creative. If he played his best he would be a very good B1 player, but if not, he's a B2 level player.
