It's his second goal on this one: I think it has some similarities with his attempt vs Uruguay without being a replica. The ball is within playing distance for a shot or to take a touch, and he lets it carry on past the goalkeepers dive while adjusting his body to follow it (so sort of a dummy I think anyway).
This is a very interesting list, and I appreciate that. Is there a reason you voted this way? Especially curious is that you only have one member of La Maquina in it at 5th position so you would think the likes of Pedernera or Lostau would have at least made it on
Interesting end of the year poll, written down by World Soccer at the end of the 1966 calender year. http://www.xtratime.org/forum/showpost.php?p=15937674&postcount=279 Ofc a Romanian 'bias' and heavily influenced by the World Cup, but nevertheless interesting to see (also the categorizations of players).

Wow, another vote! I'll get the standings updated some time this week and we can then see how your vote affects things.
I guess most people noticed that WS cited a Romanian Newspaper, so it's not a strictly british-made list.
This thread started in 2009 so a lot of things have changed so when we look at final rankings cristiano ronaldo, messi, iniesta, xavi are pretty low considering how much they must have climbed on most people's rankings in 5 years. Have you considered staring a new thread just like this?
Well, a few people have changed their vote more than once and quite a lot of votes have come in over the last few years. Anyone that has previously voted can always change their list even if they voted in 2009. I probably won't start another one at the moment to be honest, as a lot of people that voted a while ago might not make a new vote or even be around to do so. I did ask comme for example to add the newer players into his list not very long ago. I think there is a different demographic on here compared to the people voting on the page you listed before. I do know that those that voted on a career basis and also those that vote more on a peak form basis (but convinced more the more the players show) might raise some of the recent players (although really it is probably just the ones you mention and all were at least starring in 2009 including in that years Champions League - like I say I realise they could rise or appear in some top 50's as compared to then though). There are plenty of new and adjusted votes in recent times that don't have them so much further up than their place in the standings though (not further up at all in some). I do think the feasible voting period is maybe coming to an end now, but of course I'll gladly add your vote. I don't think there are enough/any new candidates to make starting a new vote really appealing at this stage though, to me anyway. But no problem that you suggested it of course.
Here are the standings after your vote (I also started tallying top 30 votes so can adjust the standings for that method too later, but the original method was top 50's only of course, just as you've done).... 1 Pele 1471 2 Diego Maradona 1432 3 Johan Cruyff 1417 4 Alfredo Di Stefano 1360 5 Franz Beckenbauer 1355 6 Ferenc Puskas 1305 7 Michel Platini 1265 8 Garrincha 1199 9 Ronaldo 1136 10 Zinedine Zidane 1113 11 Eusebio 1101 12 Zico 1098 13 Gerd Muller 1030 14 George Best 1015 15 Bobby Charlton 977 16 Marco van Basten 941 17 Lothar Matthaus 814 18 Paolo Maldini 778 19 Lev Yashin 754 20 Romario 718 21 Lionel Messi 693 22 Franco Baresi 658 23 Ruud Gullit 624 24 Roberto Baggio 611 25 Didi 563 26 Bobby Moore 554 27 Guissepe Meazza 487 28 Rivelino 480 29 Stanley Matthews 468 30 Ronaldinho 465 31 Jose Manuel Moreno 377 32 Karl-Heinz Rummenigge 355 32 Zizinho 339 34 Gianni Rivera 327 35 Dino Zoff 301 36 Raymond Kopa 297 37 Thierry Henry 257 38 Cristiano Ronaldo 250 39 Leonidas 239 40 Daniel Passarella 206 41= Matthias Sindelar 204 41= Paolo Rossi 204 43 Fritz Walter 200 44 Rivaldo 197 45 Sandor Kocsis 195 46 Michael Laudrup 193 47 Mario Kempes 162 48= Juan Schiaffino 156 48= Ladislao Kubala 156 50 Dennis Bergkamp 147 51 George Weah 140 52 Luis Figo 136 53 Falcao 134 54 Luis Suarez Miramontes 133 55 Johan Neeskens 130 56 Gianluigi Buffon 129 57 Roberto Carlos 123 58 Josef Bican 122 59 Giacinto Facchetti 121 60= Gabriel Batistuta 118 60= Carlos Alberto 118 62 Peter Schmeichel 115 63 Teofilo Cubillas 108 64 Socrates 105 65 Omar Sivori 102 66= Gordon Banks 101 66= Gyorgy Sarosi 101 68 Sandro Mazzola 99 69 Nilton Santos 98 70 Adolfo Pedernera 97 71= Gunnar Nordahl 95 71= Frank Rijkaard 95 73 Just Fontaine 92 74 Kenny Dalglish 89 75 Jozsef Bozsik 88 76 Hristo Stoichkov 87 77= Jairzinho 77 77= Jurgen Klinsmann 77 70 Gheorghe Hagi 75 80 Elias Figueroa 72 81 Duncan Edwards 68 82 Samuel Eto'o 67 83 Xavi 66 84= Hugo Sanchez 65 84= Kevin Keegan 65 86= Cafu 62 86= Andres Iniesta 62 88 Valentino Mazzola 60 89 Kaka 58 90 Matthias Sammer 54 91= Dejan Savicevic 53 91= Uwe Seeler 53 91= Francesco Totti 53 94 Lilian Thuram 52 95 Alberto Ohaco 50 96 Arthur Friedenreich 49 97= Imre Schlosser 47 97= Nandor Hidegkuti 47 99 John Charles 46 100 Hector Scarone 43 101 Cesar Cueto 42 102 Gaetano Scirea 41 103 Oldrich Nejedly 40 104= Jose Leandro Andrade 39 104= Oliver Kahn 39 106 Fabio Cannavaro 38 107 Arsenio Erico 37 108 Luigi Riva 36 109= Ernst Ocwirk 34 109= Romerito 34 109= Kazimierz Deyna 34 112 Djalma Santos 33 113= Jose Nasazzi 30 113= Luis Monti 30 115 Dragan Dzajic 28 116= Francisco Gento 26 116= Ryan Giggs 26 116= Carlos Valderrama 26 116= Eddie Hapgood 26 120= Junior 25 120= Bruno Conti 25 120= Enzo Francescoli 25 120= Amadeo Carizzo 25 120= Alberto Spencer 25 125= Piet Keizer 23 125= Tom Finney 23 127 Eric Cantona 22 128= Zbigniew Boniek 21 128= Paul Breitner 21 130= Andriy Shevchenko 20 130= Mario Zagallo 20 132= Tostao 19 132= Bebeto 19 134= Domingos Da Guia 17 134= Albert Shesternyov 17 136= Arjen Robben 16 136= Rene Higuita 16 138 David Beckham 15 139 Wim van Hanegem 14 140= Gunnar Gren 12 140= Claudio Gentile 12 140= Denis Law 12 140= Oleg Blokhin 12 144= Raul 11 144= Berti Vogts 11 144= Jay-Jay Okocha 11 144= Roger Milla 11 148= Ian Rush 10 148= Alessandro Del Piero 10 148= Abedi Pele 10 148= Anton Schall 10 152= Emilio Butragueno 9 152= Careca 9 152= Nils Liedholm 9 155= Sepp Maier 8 155= Leandro 8 155= Demetrio Albertini 8 155= Hugo Sotil 8 159= Gerson 7 159= Alessandro Nesta 7 159= Preben Elkjaer 7 159= Marcel Desailly 7 159= Neymar 7 164= Ruud van Nistelrooy 6 164= Wolfgang Overath 6 166= Edgar Davids 5 166= Ubaldo Fillol 5 166= Fritz Szepan 5 166= Allan Simonsen 5 170= Wesley Sneijder 4 170= Fernando Redondo 4 170= Bryan Robson 4 170= Dixie Dean 4 174= Jorginho 3 174= Hector Chumpitaz 3 174= Roberto Donadoni 3 177= Telmo Zarra 2 177= Gary Lineker 2 177= David Trezeguet 2 177= Rob Rensenbrink 2 181= Deco 1 181= Marco Tardelli 1 181= Rafael Marquez 1 181= Murtaz Khurtsilava 1 181= Steve Bloomer 1
well ... the worst part was that Rossi was better than Rivaldo, Kubala, Schiaffino Sivori and Kocsis LOL Too much overrated for his WC82
This post by Peru FC might interest you though mate - it was on page 45 (I doubt you've been able to look through all the thread!) and was posted in the middle of 2013 based on a vote from just before then I think (the highest position for Scirea was the correct one according to Peru FC I think, and he thought it maybe should have been Bergomi listed too, where Scirea's name appears again IIRC):
mmm Messi #8? without a good WC? and imagine if he had a better WC2014 then he would be $2? and Scirea was 77 and also 91 ?
here's another list http://www.ibtimes.com/top-50-great...na-messi-ronaldo-included-best-soccer-1624974
Actually, normally I've resisted adding lists of publications apart from what the thread was originally based on but since that's by one writer and has exactly 50 choices and since the thread is a bit old I'll add that one as a vote on this thread too - it has Messi, C.Ronaldo, Xavi and Iniesta collectively as high or higher than I get the impression anyone who's voted on this thread would do if making an adjusted vote. There could be people on Big Soccer that are yet to vote that would put one or more of them even higher I suppose, but generally he's ranking them all very high. I'll list his 50 choices and then revise the standings for the top 50 voting method again. He does have a good collection of players from different eras too, as you did yourself.
So, in effect that might have a compensatory effect re: the oldest votes - the ones which haven't been replaced anyway, since I'm not planning a new poll or new voting system.
Using copy and paste: 50. Kenny Dalglish, Scotland 49. Zbigniew Boniek, Poland 48. Matthias Sindelar, Austria 47. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, West Germany 46. Rivelino, Brazil 45. Just Fontaine, France 44. Roberto Carlos, Brazil 43. Andres Iniesta, Spain 42. Ruud Gullit, Netherlands 41. Uwe Seeler, West Germany 40. Michael Laudrup, Denmark 39. Andrea Pirlo, Italy 38. George Weah, Liberia 37. Thierry Henry, France 36. Gianluigi Buffon, Italy 35. Gianni Rivera, Italy 34. Hugo Sánchez , Mexico 33. Nilton Santos, Brazil 32. John Charles, Wales 31. Ronaldinho, Brazil 30. Enzo Francescoli, Uruguay 29. Cafu, Brazil 28. Mario Kempes, Argentina 27. Socrates, Brazil 26. Giuseppe Meazza, Italy 25. Xavi Hernández , Spain 24. Djalma Santos, Brazil 23. Bobby Moore, England 22. Lothar Matthäus, West Germany 21. Bobby Charlton, England 20. Marco Van Basten, Netherlands 19. Ronaldo, Brazil 18. Zico, Brazil 17. Franco Baresi, Italy 16. Dino Zoff, Italy 15. Gerd Muller, Germany 14. Eusebio, Portugal 13. Michel Platini, France 12. Paolo Maldini, Italy 11. George Best, Northern Ireland And now without further ado, here is the Top 10… 10. Garrincha, Brazil His nickname in Brazil, “The Joy of the People,” tells much about what Garrincha offered on the pitch. Born with both legs that bent to one side, the boy from Rio, whose demons ultimately caught up with him, befuddled opposition defenders with the kind of dribbling and ability to change direction never before witnessed. While Pele is the Brazilian known around the globe, many in his home country have more love for Garrincha. When Pele was injured, it was Garrincha who inspired Brazil to their second World Cup triumph in 1962. 9. Ferenc Puskas, Hungary The Galloping Major was a part of two of the greatest teams of all time. The most integral part of the “Magical Magyars” Hungary side of the early 1950s, Puskas and his teammates appeared certainties to lift the 1954 World Cup, but somehow lost in the final to Germany after Puskas had put them ahead and was then controversially denied an equalizer in the dying stages. Thankfully, his brilliant career did taste glory at club level, having won three European Cups with Real Madrid, including in 1960 when he scored four in the famous 7-3 defeat of Eintracht Frankfurt. 8. Alfredo di Stefano, Argentina, Colombia and Spain In marking his sad passing this week, Real Madrid had no qualms about declaring Di Stefano “the best player of all time” in a headline on their website. It is not hard to see why. Born in Argentina, but having also turned out at international level for Colombia and Spain, Di Stefano played a key role in the history of European soccer, having famously come close to joining Barcelona before moving to arch rivals Real Madrid, and becoming an integral figure in the Spanish side winning the first five European Cups. 7. Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal CR7 comes in at No. 7 and for good reason. He has shown little sign that he won’t continue to be the brightest of stars on a Real Madrid squad filled with world-class players. Once criticized for lacking end product, he has developed into the world’s most effective player, a testament to his relentless desire for self-improvement, which can also be seen in his phenomenal athleticism. 6. Franz Beckenbauer, Germany For decades every defender with any remote ability on the ball has earned comparisons to Beckenbauer, but none have matched the graceful brilliance with which the man nicknamed Der Kaiser strode forward with the ball and initiated attacks during the 1960s and ’70s. The scorer of an impressive five goals in World Cups, Beckenbauer finally lifted the trophy as captain in 1974 after suffering painful defeat in the 1966 final. 5. Zinedine Zidane, France Scored two goals with his head to lead France to victory in the 1998 World Cup final, but it was with his feet that Zidane brilliantly cut teams to shreds. With an ability to constantly keep opponents at bay when they thought the ball was theirs that was almost unparalleled, Zidane almost single-handedly inspired France to the World cup final in 2006, four years after he scored one of the all-time great goals in a European Cup final to win the trophy with Real Madrid. 4. Johan Cruyff, Netherlands The most recognizable member of the great Dutch team of the 1970s that revolutionized the game with their Total Football, Cruyff was the total footballer. While nominally a center-forward, the Amsterdam-native was ahead of his time in dropping deep to the befuddlement of his opponents. Sadly fell agonizingly short of winning the World Cup, but won three straight European Cups with Ajax. 3. Diego Maradona, Argentina Maradona played in an era when defenders were allowed to get away with brutalizing their more skilled opponents, and yet he was still majestic. A hero for leading Italian club Napoli to their first and still only two Serie A titles, his greatest achievement came when he inspired Argentina to World Cup success in 1986, scoring mesmeric goals in both the quarterfinals and semifinals. 2. Lionel Messi, Argentina The key member of the greatest club team in history as Barcelona dominated Europe, Messi can change a game in an instant with unfathomable close control while gliding forward at lightning speed. The Argentinian has answered doubts about his ability to perform for his country and could now complete his legacy by leading them to World Cup glory. 1. Pelé, Brazil Bookended his career at the top level with World Cup wins, first as a brilliant 17-year-old in 1958 and then 12 years later as part of one of the greatest ever teams to ever grace the competition. In between he picked up another winner’s medal in 1962, although was injured during the tournament. The all-time top scorer for Brazil, Pele fired in a total of 1,281 goals during a glittering career. So that makes the standings for the voting on this thread become as follows: 1 Pele 1521 2 Diego Maradona 1480 3 Johan Cruyff 1464 4 Alfredo Di Stefano 1403 5 Franz Beckenbauer 1400 6 Ferenc Puskas 1347 7 Michel Platini 1303 8 Garrincha 1240 9 Ronaldo 1168 10 Zinedine Zidane 1159 11 Eusebio 1138 12 Zico 1131 13 Gerd Muller 1066 14 George Best 1055 15 Bobby Charlton 1007 16 Marco van Basten 962 17 Lothar Matthaus 843 18 Paolo Maldini 817 19 Lev Yashin 754 20 Lionel Messi 742 21 Romario 718 22 Franco Baresi 692 23 Ruud Gullit 633 24 Roberto Baggio 611 25 Bobby Moore 582 26 Didi 563 27 Guissepe Meazza 512 28= Rivelino 485 28= Ronaldinho 485 30 Stanley Matthews 468 31 Jose Manuel Moreno 377 32 Karl-Heinz Rummenigge 359 33 Gianni Rivera 343 34 Zizinho 339 35 Dino Zoff 336 36 Raymond Kopa 297 37 Cristiano Ronaldo 294 38 Thierry Henry 271 39 Leonidas 239 40 Matthias Sindelar 207 41 Daniel Passarella 206 42= Paolo Rossi 204 42= Michael Laudrup 204 44 Fritz Walter 200 45 Rivaldo 197 46 Sandor Kocsis 195 47 Mario Kempes 185 48= Juan Schiaffino 156 48= Ladislao Kubala 156 50 George Weah 153 51 Dennis Bergkamp 147 52 Gianluigi Buffon 144 53 Luis Figo 136 54 Falcao 134 55 Luis Suarez Miramontes 133 56= Johan Neeskens 130 56= Roberto Carlos 130 58 Socrates 129 59 Josef Bican 122 60 Giacinto Facchetti 121 61= Gabriel Batistuta 118 61= Carlos Alberto 118 63 Nilton Santos 116 64 Peter Schmeichel 115 65 Teofilo Cubillas 108 66 Omar Sivori 102 67= Gordon Banks 101 67= Gyorgy Sarosi 101 69 Sandro Mazzola 99 70 Just Fontaine 98 71 Adolfo Pedernera 97 72= Gunnar Nordahl 95 72= Frank Rijkaard 95 74 Xavi 92 75 Kenny Dalglish 90 76 Jozsef Bozsik 88 77 Hristo Stoichkov 87 78 Cafu 84 79 Hugo Sanchez 82 80= Jairzinho 77 80= Jurgen Klinsmann 77 82 Gheorghe Hagi 75 83 Elias Figueroa 72 84 Andres Iniesta 70 85 Duncan Edwards 68 86 Samuel Eto'o 67 87= Kevin Keegan 65 87= John Charles 65 89 Uwe Seeler 63 90= Valentino Mazzola 60 90= Djalma Santos 60 92 Kaka 58 93 Matthias Sammer 54 94= Dejan Savicevic 53 94= Francesco Totti 53 96 Lilian Thuram 52 97 Alberto Ohaco 50 98 Arthur Friedenreich 49 99= Imre Schlosser 47 99= Nandor Hidegkuti 47 101 Enzo Francescoli 46 102 Hector Scarone 43 103 Cesar Cueto 42 104 Gaetano Scirea 41 105 Oldrich Nejedly 40 106= Jose Leandro Andrade 39 106= Oliver Kahn 39 108 Fabio Cannavaro 38 109 Arsenio Erico 37 110 Luigi Riva 36 111= Ernst Ocwirk 34 111= Romerito 34 111= Kazimierz Deyna 34 114= Jose Nasazzi 30 114= Luis Monti 30 116 Dragan Dzajic 28 117= Francisco Gento 26 117= Ryan Giggs 26 117= Carlos Valderrama 26 117= Eddie Hapgood 26 121= Junior 25 121= Bruno Conti 25 121= Amadeo Carizzo 25 121= Alberto Spencer 25 125= Piet Keizer 23 125= Tom Finney 23 125= Zbigniew Boniek 23 128 Eric Cantona 22 129 Paul Breitner 21 130= Andriy Shevchenko 20 130= Mario Zagallo 20 132= Tostao 19 132= Bebeto 19 134= Domingos Da Guia 17 134= Albert Shesternyov 17 136= Arjen Robben 16 136= Rene Higuita 16 138 David Beckham 15 139 Wim van Hanegem 14 140= Gunnar Gren 12 140= Claudio Gentile 12 140= Denis Law 12 140= Oleg Blokhin 12 140= Andrea Pirlo 12 145= Raul 11 145= Berti Vogts 11 145= Jay-Jay Okocha 11 145= Roger Milla 11 149= Ian Rush 10 149= Alessandro Del Piero 10 149= Abedi Pele 10 149= Anton Schall 10 153= Emilio Butragueno 9 153= Careca 9 153= Nils Liedholm 9 156= Sepp Maier 8 156= Leandro 8 156= Demetrio Albertini 8 156= Hugo Sotil 8 160= Gerson 7 160= Alessandro Nesta 7 160= Preben Elkjaer 7 160= Marcel Desailly 7 160= Neymar 7 165= Ruud van Nistelrooy 6 165= Wolfgang Overath 6 167= Edgar Davids 5 167= Ubaldo Fillol 5 167= Fritz Szepan 5 167= Allan Simonsen 5 171= Wesley Sneijder 4 171= Fernando Redondo 4 171= Bryan Robson 4 171= Dixie Dean 4 175= Jorginho 3 175= Hector Chumpitaz 3 175= Roberto Donadoni 3 178= Telmo Zarra 2 178= Gary Lineker 2 178= David Trezeguet 2 178= Rob Rensenbrink 2 182= Deco 1 182= Marco Tardelli 1 182= Rafael Marquez 1 182= Murtaz Khurtsilava 1 182= Steve Bloomer 1

Yeah, that one has been posted on Big Soccer and maybe this thread before I remember. Interesting idea to score points like that. I think I'll refrain from adding more non-member lists as votes after the other one though now. I'll edit the post I made above to show the latest points totals btw.
