    Sorry for the late reply but here is the win/loss balance for the league (one can limit it to FC Barcelona only if one wants):

    https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/win-loss-statistics-of-legends.1976043/

    The club continental record:

    Without JC14 (4 finals, 4 semi finals): 3W 2D 4L (starting 1968 onward)

    Without DM10 (1 final): 4W 2D

    My problem has always been that the logical equations do not square.

    I would honestly rank Cruyff above Maradona probably being more complete. I do feel Maradona was a better passer and dribbler than Cruyff.

    You're wrong, Cruyff was a better passer and had more tactical intelligence than Maradona. The Argentine was better at dribbling.

    Was Cruyff a technically better passer, or did his intelligence allow him to see and make passes that were more efficient and productive?

    I've seen some full games of both, and Maradona was hands-down the better highlight-reel passer, if you know what I mean.

    They’re close in terms of passing, but Maradona does have the slight edge. I’m a huge Cruyff fan but I ain’t gonna be too biased.

    In a comparative sample of the World Cups, Cruyff has more passes, greater precision and greater capacity to assist his teammates. It is clear that Johan Cruyff was a better passer and smarter in the game. I think you have underrated it. Let's review the data published by Opta Sports:

    CRUYFF 1974 VS MARADONA 1986

    PLAYER, PASSES/GAMES = PASSES PER GAME
    Cruyff , 332/7 = 47.4
    Maradona, 262/7 = 37.4

    PLAYER, SUCCESSFUL PASSES /PASSES = PASSING ACCURACY
    Cruyff , 270/332 = 81.3%
    Maradona = 209/262 =79.8%

    PASSING ACCURACY OPP. HALF
    Cruyff = 69.2%
    Maradona = 67.6%

    PLAYER, CHANCES CREATED /GAMES = CHANCES CREATED PER GAME
    Cruyff , 36/7 = 5.1
    Maradona, 27/7 = 3.9

    The greater efficiency and productive in the pass, makes it a better passer.
    Better specify what you mean.

    Nice analysis...
    Can you make a similar analysis for Zico in the Brazilian NT?

    You ask, and I'll grant it
    Zico was part of the national team of Brazil from 1976 to 1986, recorded 71 games, 48 goals and 22 assists, generated an average of 0.98 goals per game. He was responsible for 70 goals of the 167 scored by Brazil, which is 42%.

    Brazil National Team 1976 - 1986:
    With Zico in the team: G71 51W 17D 3L = 83.8% points win
    Without Zico in the team: G50 25W 14D 11L = 64.3% points win

    Results:
    Netherlands with Cruyff won 74.0% of the points, without Cruyff it won 48.3% (+ 25.7%)
    Brazil with Zico won 83.8% of the points, without Zico it won 64.3% (+ 19.5%)
    Argentina with Maradona won 62.1% of the points, without Maradona it won 59.9% (+ 2.2%)

    The goal average of Netherlands was 2.5 with Cruyff and 1.4 without Cruyff (+1.1)
    The goal average of Brazil with Zico was 2.4 and without Zico it was 1.6 (+0.8)
    The goal average of Argentina with Maradona was 1.6 and without Maradona it was 1.4 (+0.2)

    Cruyff was responsible for 59 goals of the 122 scored by Netherlands, which is 48.4%.
    Maradona was responsible for 62 goals of the 137 scored by Argentina, which is 45.3%
    Zico was responsible for 70 goals of the 167 scored by Brazil, which is 41.9%

    Conclusion:
    According to global statistics for their respective national teams, the most influential were::
    1. Johan Cruyff
    2. Zico
    3. Maradona
    It seems that what is said about Maradona, about his great influence, is a myth. There was only one concrete fact (WC 1986) that has become generalized..

    Diego Maradona played 677 games, 59062 minutes, 345 goals, and 240 assists, his teams scored 1.601 goals per game

    Per 90 minutes
    Johan Cruyff: goals (0.598), assists (0.497), G+A (1.094)
    Diego Maradona: goals (0.527), assists (0.366), G+A (0.893)

    Goal contribution

    It is not a simple comparison at all
    cruyff was more complete, on the other hand maradona was more dangerous for the opponent's defense, with the ball maradona was better, off ball cruyff
    I choose maradona but they are very close
