Yeah, they fall in The Eagles camp for me. Wouldn't buy one of their albums back then or put them on a mix tape. But there was worse schlock out there.
Decent musicians, their lead guitar was very good. The lead singer was a bit of a lightweight. Their songs were sort of in no-man's land, somewhere between pop and hard rock.
They do. Seriously, why do hipsters try to pretend they hate everything that regular folks like? This is where we get all the male food critics.
Some of his early stuff, absolutely. I'm looking like the only poster here who makes his musical choices on song quality instead of how much the song makes me want to dance or destroy public property.
I don't hate the Eagles. I don't love them either. They're better than REO, but to me, similar...some good songs, not really my favorite genre. I'm not buying any of their records, but I only change the station for, say, 1/3 of their songs.
Now I think in some ways it’s worse, because we have the wisdom and knowledge, gained over all those centuries, to know better. Yet we still often behave like barbarians.
Yeah but just like food, music is incredibly subjective. How can one say that something is objectively a good song? One can't. And no, even before The Big Lebowski, I didn't like The Eagles. I don't think they suck or anything, just that their music isn't my cup of tea (see analogizing to taste again).
The only Joe Walsh tune I know is "Life's Been Good" which was cool. I like CSN and Neil. Saw CSN here about 20 years or so ago. I yelled out "Heart Of Gold!" about four times, and the last time, Crosby said, "That's Neil's song". I said, "He won't know!"
They are the 'hotel California' guys right? That is the only song that I know from them (I am sure I know more songs from them if I hear them). I am pretty sure the first time I listen to that song was the Spanish version I think from the Gipsy kings. .
OTOH there are some objectively bad songs. Achy Breaky Heart, Don't Worry Be Happy, Kokomo, Sussudio, We Built This City, We Didn't Start the Fire, all of Nickelback's catalog, most of Jimmy Buffet's and many more.
NO! I stand by my statement even if every fiber of my being agrees with you subjectively with regard to every single one of those songs.
People apparently enjoy Chicago deep dish too. They're not wrong per se because it is a foodstuff of some sort that can be jammed down one's eating hole. But you & I both know ingesting that is wrong on so many levels.
Yep. I didn't like them at all in the Seventies (I lived in California in the Seventies, but didn't care much for the state's bands), but I must confess that 0 Take It Easy Lyin' Eyes Take It to the Limit One of These Nights Peaceful Easy Feeling Already Gone are good songs. Most bands don't have 6 good songs, by how I count 'em. So there is that to be said for The Eagles.
