The bag thing is likely league-wide and not that far off CFB and the NFL. Detectors may be faster. They are not too bad at Jackets games, once they got it down to where you only needed to take keys and phone out and not wallets and change--I had a fair bit of change in my pocket last night and no problems. I really am not fond of either and I doubt they keep us any safer, but it's not too obnoxious (says the frog in the kettle).... In Europe you get frisked, though....
As the weather forecast improves, I am trying to reign in my glee. The excitement for potentially getting more hours to tailgate. The joy of leaving so very early from Northeast Ohio to the ultimate destination I have been trekking to for so many years. My husband says I get in a different mood in the morning on Columbus days. More hurried. Less patient. He braces for it as the day approaches. He knows me so well. He knows I once left Geeg in our childhood home one time when Geeg was not holding up his end of the agreement to be ready by a certain time. He also knows Geeg left me in Columbus after a game that same summer. A seriousness exists for me on those mornings. Giddiness. Anxiety. Excitement. All those emotions wash over me as I think about this upcoming Saturday morning. I am so thankful I will experience it again. May this season be a golden one.
My favorite story about Middle East security was when I was in Israel ca. 1985. We crossed the border into Egypt at Rafiah. I snuck a picture of the border area out the bus window as we were getting ready to cross into Egypt (perhaps not smart, but I was young--I also have a photo of Spandau Prison from when I was in college). When I got home I got to look at the picture (note--this is old-school, so it was actually a slide). There was a plain-clothes Israeli security person in the photos. He was carrying an Uzi. With his finger on the trigger.
Yeesh. So, that mall security - like our sportsball stadium security and most airport security - was pure theater. Meant jack shit except that if the mall security decided to ******** with you, they could call the REAL polis. When our counterparts were staying in the US long-term, they were just as shocked that we didn't have any security at our malls and public spaces. After all, they were following the US "lead" in security theater after 9/11. Yes, 9/11 is what got the Turks to put metal detectors in the malls, not the PKK. That ought to say enough right there.
I used to fly in and out of Frankfurt a couple of times a year from the 70's - 90's. Seeing two military security guards, one with a long machine gun and the other with binoculars, was surprising at first, but when my parents plane took off 15 minutes before the TWA terminal they flew out of was blown up by a terrorist, I fully understood. We have had it easy here in the US.
I heard a rumor as to the bag policy. If it's true, it's ridiculous as to why we're not allowed bags. Detectors *should* be a bit faster, but they're also guaranteed to give everyone the same treatment. If the security person is buddy-buddy with a fan, it's easy to overlook a spot with a wand. Detectors don't do that.
Are you sure we're not related? I know that feeling all too well when it comes to sports. I want to be there early and leave late.
Well, if the Columbus Crew is going to be a first-class organization, it only makes sense that the supporters have first-class bespoke Crew attire.
Ouch that is a really bad one. I mean I never proof read but going to have to do soul searching on that one.
Just spent almost $100 on stuff for the tailgate for tomorrow. Some burgers, buddy is bringing hotdogs and sausages, we're making this black bean and bacon side with peppers and shalots, I'm going to bring some Dogfish Head SeaQuench Ale with some Gingerale Lemonade/Orangeade... We are READY FOR THIS!!!!!! WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
So, is today Timon portmanteau day? (I got Swenson’s for lunch today for good luck tomorrow. Still not sure about those onions in the barbecue sauce. Otherwise excellent. And damn they make good shakes!)
So, the two friends I’m bringing tomorrow are bagging out of the tailgating. [emoji849] If we get there by~3:45, will the local brewery people still have stuff in the tailgate area to sample that late?
