MLS Regular Season Match Columbus Crew FC vs Montreal Impact Saturday, June 24 07:30 PM Mapfre Stadium TV: CW Columbus / Spectrum Sports / BCSN2 (Spectrum 311/1311, AT&T 005/1005, WOW! 005/205, DirecTV 053/902, Dish 053/7205, Antenna 53.1) Come watch your local soccer team maybe do something against a team from a city we probably don't give a rat's ass about... Yay 2017 season...
Montreal hosts Toronto in leg 1 of the Canadian Championship final tonight. Leg 2 is next Tuesday. I'd be pretty surprised if they brought their absolute best starting 11 to Columbus this weekend.
One goal loss. Will get first goal from Meram, cough up one before halftime, then lunge for the loss in the 76th minute on a quick transition. Jahn will come in at minute 82 followed by "the late savior" Duka in the 85th ... Crowd will dissipate during stoppage most with a look of disgust like the one you get after paying taxes or accidentally drinking orange juice after brushing your teeth. We'll get some post-game speech about the system working but not working the system which will sound like a multi-level marketing script. Local news will show something about grade school Buckeye football prospects, some golf crap, results of local wiener dog races then quickly mention the Crew loss as they transition back to the anchor and weather person.
I will say one potentially positive thing leading into this game... Montreal is playing in the Canadian Championship on Wednesday against Toronto, Champions League berth on the line. Hopefully they play their starters. EDIT: They did play a mainly full strength team: Piatti, Mancosu, Dzemalli, Donadel, Bernier, Ciman. I know there is a rule that at least 3 Canadians have to play I think, so not quite full strength but close.
Either the Crew will win this game by 1, just to screw with our heads and give ever so much of a glimmer of hope that this team can still do something this season. Or, the Gregg has lost the locker room and we've been witnessing the start of the downward spiral the last couple weeks, in which case we'll lose by 3.
Crew better pull together a win for this one. My son turns four on Saturday, and he wanted to go to the game. Actually, he wanted to go to "Columbus," which for him is synonymous with Crew Stadium. He also associates the American Flag with Crew Stadium as well and just about any other stadium lights we see are also Crew Stadium. He has been to two games this season, both good wins. I need to keep selling him on this club.
Oh I just was told that it is RIVALRY WEEK! Boy how Montreal is our rivals! Ohh those guys. They are so. . .
I had longstanding plans to come down to this match and catch up with another out-of-town (Fort Wayne). I'm excited to see him, but not as excited to see the team play, honestly. Win by 1?
No Drogba, no problem. I think we win this one 4-1 or something absurd. Also not watching tonight - going out of town - so we're doomed to win big. And pretty.
To paraphrase a quote from one of my favorite movies of all time... "Now we could do it with conventional players, but that could take years and cost millions of dollars. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part!" Dilly Duka For The Win! (lose by two)
Sarcasm in the extreme... I am frustrated that this team "should" win and doesn't. The last match I went to was in Cincy.
