Guzman is not fit to be a parking attendant at Crew Stadium. I have no clue why he is still being trotted out in our colors.
Guzman has moved from player that I don’t think is any good to a player I hate. There are very few players that I hate, but he is becoming that player.
Worst dropped points of the season. No excuse drawing this match. If we can’t ever generate anymore offense than 1 goal we’ll lose most of these.
At the moment the cross for the tying goal was made..... Moktar, Hamilton, Guzman, Santos are all closer to midfield than to our own box. Of course, Guzman still hasn’t recovered from his run into the opposing half to chase down a ball that he was beaten to by their gk by a good 20 yds. I have no earthly explanation for what Moktar is doing here. He was terrible during his entire stay on the field. I give Santos a little leeway just because he was gassed. But I go back to Guzman and Moktar. WTF are they doing?
That loss is on Porter, IMO. Santos needed to be subbed off and Guzman for Argudo was a terrible last sub. Zardes could have gone 90. Management of the last 20 minutes was not good. Also it was Mokhtar's worst match. We should have had at least 3 and we're lucky Chicago didn't score more. I will be firmly on the Porter out camp if things don't turn around fast next season, because he doesn't seem to be improving after almost a full season with the squad and some of own guys. Room and Maloney were great. It was a beautiful night. My kids had a blast and the energy in the stadium was awesome. It was a gut punch at the end and I'm sick of that story happening over and over.
Why did Accam not play? He’s a $1M proven talent. Argudo played like his $60k salary justifies. Decisions like this are why we didn’t win and why Porter has no excuses. Hamilton? Really?? Worst subbing I’ve ever seen from a coach trying to actually win a game.
Hated being right about needing one more goal. Felt the Chicago goal was coming and really was feeling it during the last 10 minutes plus stoppage time. Knew that backline was shaky to start with and drop-off at the end due to tiredness was more pronounced than a usual, veteran line shows. A few days ago I was musing that Mokhtar was not on the same page as the rest of the team. Last night, he looked like he was not even using the right book and possibly was even at the wrong library. That was not a night that will be in highlight reel. Fortunate for him, there is enough criticism to go around with some of the players and coaching that it is not as glaring as it might have been other nights. On the plus side.... Maybe I have not been around to enough games these past couple of years but I felt that the gameday presentation has been steadily getting more professional throughout the season than what we have seen in quite some time (if ever). More fireworks and in-stadium fanfare during national anthem and when a Crew player scores, a quality half time event with the Crew alumni, etc. Game day feels more like an event (in a good way) and I feel like we have professional owners who care about the experience and bringing a big-time approach to make it better.
On the plus side, I managed to be much more zen about last night than I normally am at a Crew games which ends with disappointment. I fully expected that we'd concede once Guzman came in for our last sub. What a gutless, mind-boggling sub. "Ruthless in the attack," eh, Caleb? It was a Berhalter-esque move. We had no possession, yet make a defensive sub late to try and bunker out the 3 points. With Accam on the bench, FFS. I just don't get it. Still, it was a beautiful night, fun crowd. And my son and I downed $8 worth of brats. Santos' goal was lovely. Room looks solid. I like watching Keita play. And who'da thunk that Maloney would have been worthy of such praise? Oh, and Cincy lost again.
I'll add that one reason why I didn't let myself get too wound up about last night is that, as is clear to anyone with remedial math abilities, the season is a loss; we're not making the playoffs. So I think what we saw last night was more of a "guys being given a shot at earning consideration for a 2020 roster spot" than "the coach trying to win a late season match" since the result last night doesn't really have a great effect on the 2019 season. Guzman came in late with one job, and was useless. Hamilton came in for our starting striker - instead of Williams - and did nothing. Maloney, who we mocked a few short weeks ago, is pretty much the definition of a player for whom fate has provided a chance to play (he'd not have seen the field otherwise); he's grabbed that opportunity by the throat and not let go. Santos' play this season is probably making Bez go back to the drawing board in terms of our roster salary/GAM/TAM situation next year. You could go on list-making, but a lot of guys are auditioning for 2020 right now, whether they realize it or not.
