The Crew, too. Who be the baddest? Discuss. The Crew need all three points out of this one, and the Galaxy have been bad all season, so expect a character-building draw. Also, welcome back, Sigi.
If Higuain pLays and we go 4231 who is started by the back line? Must bench Mensah and probably Francis in favor of Raitala . But who is our best CB pairing in this form? Abubakar and Williams Abubakar and Crognale Abubakar and Naess Williams and Crognale Williams and Naess Crognale and Naess ?
If we go 4231 this time, I realistically think it would probably be Mensah and Abubakar or Mensah and Williams. Unless he rotates some players because it's midweek and Crognale or Naess get in there. Mensahs unfortunately going to keep getting his chances because hes too big of an investment for them to not try to get some value and quality out of him, even if it's to no avail.
LA actually has the leagues second best away record (they're abysmal at home) Columbus Crew SC home 8-3-1 LA Galaxy Away 5-5-1 Crew should still win this one
No Giovani dos Santos or Jermaine Jones for #CLBvLA but Sigi Schmid hopeful to have one or both for #CaliClasico https://t.co/iE5QnO1vuD— Adam Serrano (@AdamSerrano) August 22, 2017 No Gio (hurts) or Jones (helps) for LA (sucks).
I was also puzzled. Is this a doghouse situation based on the "this is my last season" interview? Berhalter has not been kind to those that speak like that to the press (see Kei, Duka). I'm not saying Higuain's comments were at the level of those two, but is this a pattern?
If this is so, I'm really disappointed in Ggggg for benching arguably our best player because he spoke out. Gggg cutting his nose off to spite his face.
F him then. He's had two underwhelming seasons followed by a decent season this year. Not great, but decent. Berhalter chose him over Kei when the decent thing to do would to have allowed Kei to take that PK. He's certainly not deserved DP money over the last 2 1/2 years.
To be clear, we are all totally speculating about an ambiguous comment. Hopefully the picture will become more clear soon?
I have an extra ticket in Section 124 - Row 11 - Seat 2 this evening that I am willing to let go for $20. Please PM me if interested and I can meet you where the Olde Farts tailgate.
I'm actually not gonna completely shit on Berhalter for this one. I'll play devil's advocate for a second. I don't think it's as dark as people are reading into it. Berhalter has a tendency to try to go all Bellechekian in meetings with the press and not give direct answers. It's goofy and it's stupid, but it's part of who he is. He feels that dodging questions keeps the opponents on their toes with misinformation. I think he was just being a bit to clever with his wording here. Now, if I am wrong and everyone else is right and this is proof of the Higuain/Gregg rift getting bigger and Gregg is acting like a child to the detriment of the team, then everybody is welcome to join me on the Berhalter Out bus. Everyone is always welcome.
I am with hangthadj. It sounds like either a deliberate misdirection (70%) or Higuain has one of those injuries that flairs up. My back did this years ago. One day perfect, next day I could not stand up (20%) or They are really on the outs and they are having a pouty pity party (10%). BigSoccer = Totally Speculating about Ambiguous Comments!
I wanted to say something about our form being better with Higuain out, but we're 3-2-2 in the seven games he's missed and 2-0-5 in the seven games he started before that. So, basically the same. The fact that neither of those runs of form will be good enough over the next 7 to make the playoffs is the bigger concern. I will say that the defense has looked better in the 3-4-2-1 and some of the attacking play we've seen has been decent too. If we're building a team for the post-Higuain era, no time like the present. i do want him to get that 10th goal. Teams with three 10 goal scorers are pretty rare. The Crew have never done it.
