As a 3rd Jersey, the outrage would have only been limited to snickers. The fact that the monstrosity we got was a primary is what made it epically awful. That said, I'm perfectly fine if we use this to claim the #ForColumbus unis were @CrewBeat's fault, and mock him mercilessly.
But he and his mom also inspired the logo with the 2017/2018 yellow kits, so it's a wash at worst. I did hear that Tony's wife was behind those kits. She should have had yellow shorts. Those blue things were beyond hideous.
Who cares? If we disqualify every color that's worn by another team, we're not going to be able to HAVE a third jersey. Red? Can't have that, can we? Orange? We're not Houston. Green? Eff Seattle. Blue? Nope. We had a garbage penalty called on us in KC that one time, right? Purple? And look like Orlando? Please. Gray? Can't do that, because Minnesota sang Wonderwall at us once. Looks like our 3rd will have to be fluorescent pink.
I was referring to the Parley jerseys from last year. The white one. You know, the one @captaincbus wears. The one my husband wanted, but we were on a ban from purchasing Crew merch.
Opinion: I know it’s their thing in Europe, but I dislike teams wearing bizarre colors not to be found in their color scheme as their second jerseys. May we always have yellow as primaries and black secondaries. Third kit? Knock yourself out.
Couple of things: I love the For Columbus shirt, and if anyone has an XL or larger (preferably long sleeve) laying around, I'll pay a handsome sum to free up the space in your closet. Also, I think we'll see a third jersey in the next couple of years, possibly before the new stadium opens. I have a theory that states that the Haslam's will stand for less and less of the "also-ran" status afforded to Columbus by the merchandising folks at MLS/adidas and will demand more/better/wider options. If you want this franchise to make more money, Mr. Garber, you've gotta give us as much merchandise to sell as possible.
I love the jersey, as well. That being said, it is cursed. Both Markus' version and my husband's version of the jersey have stains that will not come out (and I have tried so many different store-bought and homemade stain removers). Ugh.
All of my jersey-stain (and hat stain, too) battles have been won with a good long soak in hot water with OxyClean.
No team in MLS has third jerseys anymore, just like no team has long sleeve jerseys. Dictated by MLS and Adidas.
This kid had some stellar mockups in this thread. I was not familiar with him all those years ago, but I now know him through Geeg. Hurray for social media where one uses a first and last name as the identifier. So speaking of jersey fixes, he did some fantastic work on perfecting the fix on the front of a jersey where the sponsor has come off in the wash. I told him a few weeks ago to post some of the before-and-after photos. Neat stuff. Boooooo!
[altered cc’s post by what’s in the brackets] While I know that that was the directive, it seems counterintuitive that mL$ and Adidas would limit their options to make more money.
Well, yes, that is an accurate statement this year. But my point stands, there isn't as much Crew merch - of any kind - available as there is for other teams. The new Vineyard Vines line is a perfect example. See also: Columbia and women's apparel.
What's that Italian team that has them?? And my alma mater has used pink and black as a third from time to time (original school colors).
They're not limiting their options: "You want a long sleeve jersey option? Here, buy these two pieces of apparel for $200 instead of that one for $150."
