Excellent news. The Inaugural 2007 SUM Cup team (thrown together a week before the tournament with players from all over Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Indiana, Michigan, and Erie) reached the Semifinals but lost to Kansas City after a Crew player was harshly sent off with his 2nd yellow. DC United, who the Crew tied in the group stages, ended up winning the tournament. The win in the SUM Cup meant that DC United advanced to a tournament in Madrid the next summer, which DC United also won. The 2008 SUM Cup team was eliminated in the group stages by Chivas USA. The 2009 SUM Cup team finished in 4th place after losing to Real Salt Lake.
