Hell, I figured they’d shove in one more PK for NYCFU at the end, and figured the fix was in when they put Pirlo on the field. The guy is a legend, and the league screwed him by getting him on the one team that couldn’t figure out how to use him. I wish I had stock in Maalox, “Big Daddy” Don Garber is probably eating them by the handful.
As heart attack inducing as this was, we have just come through a four games in two weeks stretch; three of those on the road; one of those requiring an extra 30 minutes and PKs. This team desperately needs a rest which, fortunately, it'll get. Nov. 21 is the start of a new season.
Jozy maybe not depending on what occurred in the tunnel. I doubt MLS will take any action that would harm Toronto's chances though.
What the hell was Abu thinking attempting a bike to clear a ball in a crowd, in the box, in the dying moments of the game? It looks like he bailed on it half way through but no need for that and he could have been whistled for a foul. He and Mensah have some interesting ideas from time to time. We need to be much smarter.
Between us and Houston moving on Garber and PreCum are spooning in a dark room somewhere wiping each others tears away.
That was an extremely nerve-wracking game made all the more worth it by being on a train full of NYC supporters back up to the Hudson Valley after the game. Their were some great conversations to eavesdrop in on there. That said, you have to hope Gregg has learned something from this game when it comes to managing a two legged series. We were very poor throughout. Yes, NYCFC only scored on a PK (rightly called) and a deflection, but had a good half dozen other scoring chances. We never looked to threaten the NYCFC goal except for maybe the Meram shot and Manneh's flub into the side netting on the counter at the end. The euphoria of getting into the conference finals is deserved, and I hope Gregg and the team feel that. But let that sink in for a day and nothing more. If this was a performance from mid-season, we'd all be bemoaning how poor it was. We got 15 days to get some guys (Meram, Artur?) healthy and for the rest of the team to put in hard work and get ready. A win vs Toronto even without Jozy and Gio isn't a given. A 4-1 cushion going into leg 2 even less so.
