America's Hardest Working team. Save it. They need a new stadium in a better location. It really does no one any good where it is, except maybe the fairgrounds. The Crew would be better off with a new location that people do not find messy, boring, or threatening, and the city would be better off if the stadium was actually in a place that would temp visitors to spend some money outside of the stadium (I'm guessing most Crew fans don't find Lowes to be all that enticing). I think a new stadium, given it's done right and put in the right place, could be the "reboot" the club's attendance needs.
I guess I hold that stadium as hallowed ground in terms of America's soccer landscape. If a shiney new stadium and maybe a rebrand is what you think would work, yeah, that would work for a while. Then you'd be back in the same place we're in now. Remember when Toronto had people paying crazy money because tickets were so hard to get. Well look at them now not 6 years removed from their shiney new toys. It all comes down to product. And I ain't buying the brand Robert or the rest of his staff are selling.
Crew Stadium was a nice start for SSS movement in MLS, and does have historical value, but that doesn't fix it's piss poor location and reputation, nor it's "glorified high school stadium" vibe. It's NOT a major professional sports team facility, in the bluntest words. I've heard so many people tell me that they went to Crew Stadium and hated it because it was so far removed from anything and the parking lot situation. Those people, and believe it, there are a lot of them, simply will not return to watch the Crew until there is a better gameday experience in the stadium area.
Really? Many people? Columbus is built around having to drive basically everywhere. But hey, maybe Hunt Jr will pay for the next one out of pocket too
Le Fluke proving he's a one hit wonder this year despite getting screwed all that much. But I have to say, even though it doesn't matter much, I should be cheering for the West in the East clashes. But after last year and the giant shat everyone threw at the East, I love the point stealing from the West going on.
If you're suggesting that because people drive, that having things around the stadium doesn't matter, then there's really no point in continuing the discussion.
Now that we've moved from discussing SKC's new shiny to yet another rehashing of our situation, would you mind taking the discussion to the thead that covers that topic?
Careful, Mike -- a few more posts like this and people will start accusing you of being an insecure dictator.
If there were a regional cup between Columbus and Chicago it would be as even as you can get. 6-6-1 1998 Crew win on goal differential. Crew win 2-1 Fire win 2-0 With the Detroit news that I guess isn't really anything special anymore I was trying to come up with names for the cup if there was one. We decided that something to do with the Northwest Territory would be best so we came up with two potential names. 1. St. Clair Cup for Arthur St. Clair the governor for all but one year of the territories existence. 2. Maxwell Cup for Maxwell's Code the first laws that governed the territory.
I think I read on Twitter that Lenhart's hat trick was the first for a visiting team at RFK Stadium since Alejandro Moreno did so for the LA Galaxy (sometime between 2002 and 2004). PS With his game tonight, that's 4 goals and 2 assists in 8 games for Steve Lenhart. (For undoubtedly less than $500K per year, too.)
Whoop-di-do. Edson Buddle whipped out a hat trick about once a year too. Let me know when he hits double-digits.
Eric Hassli just hit an absolute screamer golazo in the 85th minute that earned a 2-2 tie in Seattle for the Whitecaps. It's probably the goal of the year up to this point.
