Higuain needs to be on the bench. He slows us down and isn't finding the penetrating passing in the final 3rd. Also, so many lazy passes and flicks last night. Players need more intentionality in their passing. Artur is going to see a lot of playing time. GB clearly rates him. I am curious what we will trade Tchani for. What type of value does he have.
For a cool half mil, he'd better make us look a hell of a lot better than we did. $525k?!?! Who in the hell made that decision? WTF?!
Ding ding. You hit that right on the head. For Berhalter, he's better at speaking English and/or BS. Columbus Crew SC always posts it. Good majority of fans believe it that don't write on here. MLSsoccer and MLS media like Wahl were the worst when Berhalter started out great in his MLS career for a few games. They talked him up as some sort of tactical dynamo and it's something he has never lived down. That or his system. Then his teams would not win in 14 games. Kei Kamara, Tony Tchani, Waylon Francis and etc. saved him in 2015. And well how did that work out for those guys? And he's been terrible since.
Our DP and our captain were bad? No. Lol never With some of the guys Berhalter is scared to stand up against it's like they caught him in an affair. There not good and rarely? Why couldn't they do this in the offseason? And perhaps do this for Waylon Francis? These guys have done good things for Crew SC. Why not be real with them and help their career, if you don't see a future with them? Ok. But they at least deserve that no?
He killed himself on that one ball, the yellow for Houston 2nd half, and got killed. He's good. Just made a mistake. A mistake just as much on Trapp and the system. Yeah, Steffen should do better. But, so should Mensah with a few things. Yet, both of those guys were the only ones to show me anything positive at all for those 90 minutes against Houston.
Confirmed that GB subbed off Afful due to performance. Afful might not have had his best game, but surely there were other people that should have been subbed first, including Pipa. Shit is just weird at this point.
Hell, Berhalter may have subbed in Maloney just to stick it to Afful. What does it say that 135 minutes into the season, a star player is benched and the coach is more worried about spite than winning games? This coach/doghouse stuff needs to stop. We have limited budget and this club cannot afford to have high priced guys on the f-u list. My god, has anyone watched Portland? 6 dangerous play makers on offense. Makes us look minor league.
Maybe it's just me...maybe it's just early..but the Crew have played last year's East and West worst teams....have 1 point. Its early..will roll with that..is Greg up for the challenge
Here's one for you, you Dirty Bird sympathizer. Atlanta: 7 goals, 3.01 xGColumbus: 2 goals, 3.80 xG— Paul Carr (@PaulCarr) March 12, 2017 A-hahahahahah! Now what?! h/t: Mr. ZipSix
The league leader after 2 games in xA is Justin Meram. Ola Kamara leads in xG. The Columbus attack is legit. https://t.co/fPBqJd3Dhw— American Soccer Analysis (@AnalysisEvolved) March 13, 2017 Wooooooooo!
Expected assists and goals. It's a super trendy stat that shows just how superior the losing team was during a match. EDIT: If you want to take a really deep dive into how it's calculated, read this.
Meh. As far as I am concerned, the only goals that are important are the ones that are actually scored..... And a loss is a loss.
100% agree with this. One of the ideas behind statistical analysis is determining which behaviors (passes in the attacking third, shots from certain positions from certain passes, etc.) contribute to a team winning more often than not. There are many reasons (poor finishing, perceived quality of a pass/shot, or plain dumb luck) a team can underperform compared to their xG, but if they do so on a consistent basis, they have to re-evaluate what they're doing and why they're doing it. Because the only statistics that matter after a game are real goals scored and real goals allowed.
Agreed. While we're on the subject of people praising stats other than goals scored for or against, I have always been most entertained by someone saying that despite their team's loss, they "dominated" because they had more shots and possession. The objective of the game is to score more goals than the other team, not generate more scoring opportunities.
Italy won the 2006 World Cup being dominated by the likes of Australia and Ukraine. I was in the stands for both of those games. The Italians soaked up the pressure in an organized manner while conceding very few real chances, then launched themselves up field in a twinkling to carve out a dangerous chance or a goal in a flash. Just like Houston did to us. Once a team like that gets a lead the stats are even more lopsided. Certainly we wouldn't have seen nearly as much of the ball if Houston hadn't been leading by 2 for the majority of the match.
