A bit of publicity could help put some pressure on the people that'll make the decision.....Lets hope. I like the fact that he mentions they'll need to "cut bait" eventually and that there'll be another temporary home.
The Islanders are now eyeing land in Elmont................. http://nypost.com/2016/07/21/islanders-talking-with-mets-about-building-arena-next-to-citi-field/
The article mentioned a place near Citi Field AND a place near Belmont (near the Cosmos proposed stadium location).
my apologies...I had read a Bloomberg article about this which failed to mention anything about the Elmont option...so I am sorry. M
this makes the case for Brooklyn: http://www.thisiscosmoscountry.com/...t-or-plan-b-cosmos-need-brooklyn-bandage-now/
Very good article , most of us regulars at the games know that we need to move out of Hofstra. It's what's best for the club at this time, MCU park is the best fit with a nex field. We could use Hoftra for Cosmos B games ( not Shuat stadium) or for training clinics for youth players as it is used now. It could still be part of the plan, just not where the Cosmos play.
How can one argue that when the Cosmos don't have a stadium, team office, academy, and training facility?
Big Apple Soccer has reported the Cosmos are in negotiations with MCU Park [in Coney Island] for 2017 and the Cosmos have issued a denial. Until a deal is signed that is exactly what I would expect them to say. MCU has the issues of a baseball stadium, most notably that about 1k seats [of 7k] would be in a corner of the field behind a foul ball screen and I would expect not one of these seats ever to be sold. We all know the turf needs to be covered up and the stadium would be shared with a minor league baseball team. The location on the water in Brooklyn would be great; but in all honesty I wouldn't expect the Cosmos to average 5K there, that's better than attendance this year at Hofstra but until they build...[voice trails off]...Brooklyn...subway...etc.
Cosmos played there twice and averaged a little more than 5000 people and without any impressive marketing campaign, I believe that if they moved there they could easily reach from 5000 to 7000 people considering that MCU Park can contain 7500 people plus some standing places so it could arrive to almost 10000 for a Nasl soccer bowl or a Us Open Cup final
what Cosmos need for next year is ; new stadium, new tv deal with different provider, new marketing office and a new marquee player or more marquee players and see how things would drastically change
After the attendance numbers we saw at yesterday's game I doubt Cosmos can stay any longer in Hoftra. We need to get out asap, there is no support there. MCU park is the best place to go, got to make it work.
You really think they can consistently sell out a yard where nearly all the seating is oriented in the wrong direction?
NYC has done pretty well in a baseball situation. If the Cosmos are able to consistently get 2-3k out to that miserable venue, no reason to think they can't do better at a venue with better access, better amenities, less than 18 other sports fields painted on the turf, and beer.
Will still be playing on turf. Brown and green turf at that. Better access is for you locals to determine. The sight lines are just going to be worse. The amenities and concessions certainly will help.
Almost every soccer team in North America with the exception of Seattle, Portland, Vancouver and Montreal could have the above applied to their situation and come out ahead.
As if we needed another reason to get out of Hogstra..... http://bigapplesoccer.com/teams/cosmos2.php?article_id=45866 Now we wouldn't be able to host the final there. We need to find a new temporary home asap.
