And if the club relegated is big enough, they buy a club that stayed in first division and just change its name and move it.

Also, the media companies own the clubs. So if say TV Azteca has three clubs, one with a lot of fans and one with barely any, and the club with a lot of fans gets relegated, they just switch 'em.

It's as convoluted and nonsensical as MLS. The soccer is a tad better though.

    Snip:
The American midfielder enjoyed an impressive loan spell with Liga Ascenso champions Dorados de Sinaloa, which convinced Club Tijuana to sign him to a new contract

Joe Corona was on his way to Major League Soccer, but Club Tijuana had seen enough from him during a recent successful loan stint to be convinced to keep him with the Xolos, sources tell Goal USA.

The target of multiple MLS teams for a move ahead of the 2017 season, Corona was ready to make the move north, but will now stay in Mexico after signing a new multi-year deal to stay with the club that has owned his rights for his entire professional career.

Corona helped lead Dorados de Sinaloa to the Liga Ascenso title earlier this month, completing a solid campaign on loan with the team that shares owner ship with first-division Club Tijuana. He played well enough to convince Tijuana manager Miguel Herrera to bring him back after spending the past two years on loan.

A loan stint with Liga MX side Veracruz in 2015 had mixed results for the 26-year-old midfielder, and, after returning to Xolos briefly, he was loaned to Dorados for the fall season, which allowed Corona to add another Liga Ascenso title to his resume.

Corona will return to a Tijuana side that finished in first place in Liga MX during the Apertura season, but fell to a first-round playof exit in the Apertura playoffs. The Xolos have lost a pair of midfielders since the end of the Apertura, with Juan Carlos Medina reportedly set for a move within the league and Hector Villalba returning to Atlanta United after a loan spell.

I'm going to rename this one using this suggestion. Act first, apologize later.

A safe choice. A plot twist might have cost Corona a premium opportunity.

Returned to Xolos with a friendly appearance in San Diego against Atlas:

Herrera went to his bench in the second half. He brought on Yasser Corona, John Requejo, Hiram Muñoz and Michael Orozco as defenders. Juan Carlos Nuñez, Juan Carlos Medina and offseason acquisition Joe Corona entered at midfield. Dayro Moreno and Lopez came on as strikers with Lopez playing with the senior team for the first time. Dilan Nicoletti came on for Lajud at goalkeeper in the second half.

That's a loose Spanish translation often used in Liga MX to mean, "returning from loan"

Great to see him go the full 90 in a league match against a major opponent...hopefully he can retain that starting role. This was his first start for Xolos in quite a while, after being on loan with Veracruz and Dorados.

The return almost didn't happen. Corona's solid form as a regular starter during Dorados' run to the Ascenso MX 2016 Apertura title caught the eye of Major League Soccer teams, but options were limited in Mexico's first division.

"At the time [last season], I had some offers from MLS, so I was already looking to that, but I wasn't counting on Tijuana calling me back," said Corona. "[The MLS options] were the only ones I had until Tijuana came through."

It was after the Ascenso MX championship final on Dec. 4 that a brief chat turned Corona's path from MLS and back to the club he helped advance to the first division and lift the 2012 Apertura title -- becoming a crowd favorite in the process.

"[Xolos president] Jorgealberto [Hank] went to the Dorados final and after the game he told me that he saw I was doing well and he wanted me to join Xolos," said Corona.

Watched the game. Joe played 90,
was subbed out in injury time of a gritty, cagey 1-0 win. Tijuana is coming around again to being tactically superior in home games as they had been several years ago. Prominent in possession without allowing much of a counter. Very 4-5-1, really almost 5-4-1. Joe plays narrow right midfield, box to box.

Our boy Joe Benny Corona looked good. He has more energy and industry than I remember in his last go round with TJ. This week and last week at Chivas, he uses his body, he puts his foot on the ball occasionally with his touch and unique rhythm. Steady, positionally disciplined, ready to make a late run in the box, always with the lungs to get back.

Not spectacular but very useful. Takes free kicks. Wins the physical battle and nice sticky feet. Engine room midfielder now. Solid Liga MX midfielder. Looking forward to more.

Damn did Joe Benny always have them sweet feet? He did two cutbacks juking two defenders then had a hammering shot on goal that was parried for a corner.

That's not the sort of thing he does often, tbh.
