I think the two finals deserve their own specific thread.

Santos CANNOT win. The brazilian media will have multiple orgasms with "the boys from Vila Belmiro", "Joga bonito", "blá, blá, blá". Creeps me out just to imagine it.

And the most important: they would have 3 Libertadores. Same as us. >/

    Peñarol copero!!!!!

what a joy see them rise back to the glory. They deserve this Copa.

    Re: Copa Libertadores 2011 (R)

I am very pissed at both Santos and at CONMEBOL for their various rulebreaks.

    1) The minimum stadium capacity for a Libertadores Final is 40,000 people, yet they allow the Final to take place in the Pacaembu which only holds 37,000 people? For a ********ing final that could fill up a 100,000 seater and with the Morumbi so close by?

    2) Santos is only giving Peñarol 1,800 tickets. Understandable since that stadium is so small. But guess what the price is............350 DOLLARS per ticket for a ********ing seat in the corner of the stadium. If this was Europe, maybe I understand that. But you are going to charge a bunch of Uruguayans 350 dollars/seat? The worst part is that in return they expect 4,500 seats at the Centenario at 100 dollars each.

Why do Brazilians get special treatment all the time?

Well, hopefully he's equally as bad on both sides, because refs always tend to favor Brazil, but I'll keep an open mind and hope that he doesn't.

I think this game will be just like any other Peñarol game. We'll atack a little in the beginning, but mostly let the other team have posession and get tired by doing so.

Then we'll have quick counterattacks through the wings and hopefully capitalize. We should have every player ready in full shape.

Can somebody fill me in on Santos as I have never seen them play?

The winner will be getting $2 million in prize money. The second place team will get $800,000.

    Re: Copa Libertadores 2011 (R)

No, Pacaembu officially holds 40,199 people since last year's Libertadores when Corinthians asked the local City Hall to change the capacity, so they could play an eventual final there. But not all tickets are for sale, because there are the VIPs and that stuff.

This final should be in Morumbi, but São Paulo FC have a bad relationship with CBF and FPF (State of São Paulo football organization) and they and Santos's players wanted Santos to play in Pacaembu. Santos's managers wanted to play in Morumbi, so they could get more money.

This ticket price is a joke. Someone has to do something about that.

    This.

São Paulo FC is effective a sworn enemy of both CBF and FPF and the former is doing what it can to exclude São Paulo FC's stadium, Morumbi, from the 2014 World Cup. This is why Corinthians has received so much support from CBF to build its stadium, the so-called "Itaquerao."

São Paulo FC's management was in touch with the people who run Santos. Santos' management WANTED Morumbi. But they were brownbeaten by CBF and FPF to choose Pacamebu and in the end they caved in to pressure. São Paulo FC has nothing to do with the choice of the venue. If I'm correct, CONMEBOL itself preferred Morumbi.

    I wasn't clear.

What wanted to say is that CBF, FPF and Santos's players that wanted to play in Pacaembu.

São Paulo has nothing to do with the choice of the venue indeed.

    Re: Copa Libertadores 2011 (R)

But the point of the matter is that they can't play the final in a stadium that will hold less than 40,000 seats. If its not Morumbi, go to Rio. Peñarol was looking forward to sending 20,000 fans to Brasil. With that amount of seats given, and the ticket costs, its downright impossible

    Re: Copa Libertadores 2011 (R)

Celeste4life, Arthur V and I don't disagree with you. But as we said, Santos' management wanted Morumbi. It was CBF, FPF, and Santos' players who wanted Pacaembu.

As for going to Rio, that would be a problem for everybody, including Penarol fans. Maracana is currently undergoing renovations, so that would leave Engenhao Stadium. It can house 46k. However, Santos' fans would complain - they wouldn't want to dish out the cash to go to Rio. Then, there's the whole "bairrista" thing; Santos fans (and probably the team) would not want to go to Rio; they'd rather be "at home," and Pacaembu is far more "home" than Engenhao would be. Furthermore, Uruguayan fans would have to pay more to go all the way to Rio.

And then there's security. Rio police are more prone to beat fans than SP fans. I saw footage of Fluminense vs. Boca Juniors in 2008 - the Rio police had no mercy on the Boca fans. I actually felt sorry for them - the footage I saw showed they didn't do anything. You would probably not want to face them. The SP police is tough but they don't do that unless provoked.

Unfortunately I think the chances of your wish coming true would've been higher if Velez advanced. Referee/linesmen screwed them big time!

Alright, ready for this game. I'm expecting Santos to play conservatively... I hope it's not a dull game. The atmosphere should be unforgettable at the Centenario.
