Oh wow, he was onside for that first one.

    Half time, Velez 1-Penarol 1

It was offside. The guy receives the ball when only the keeper is in front. Ironically, the Martinez unallowed goal was onside. No damage done, I guess.

Both were extremely quick calls for the lineman to make.

    Indeed. Perhaps a make-up call.

Silva and a Penarol player nearly went at it - and then out of nowhere Ortiz from Velez gets involved and yellow-carded. That Ortiz dude looks like somebody one might meet in some rural or small-town backwater in the southern United States. He looked ready to blow a gasket.

Fun game for a neutral... still think Velez is an overestimated side. Peñarol seems very clinical in the build up to their counters... one touch passing, switching sides constantly and Velez defense seems to always be unprepared for that.

When Velez builds up, it feels rather forced except there towards the end of the first half. Peñarol manages to maintain the same volume of people in offense and defense, coordinating an outstanding game plan that worked well until the goal.

I foresee Ramirez coming in. Velez still needs two goals... more space for Peñarol to finish them off.

Agreed. Penarol showed this half that they have the talent many said was only available on Velez's side of the pitch. That one play where a Penarol player faked, dribbled, and crossed for a Martinuccio header that nearly went in. They are also holding their own against Velez's pressure. Having said that, Velez is going to go all out now - but I doubt Gareca will do what Astrada did last night (throw all caution to the wind).

I will be very surprised if there are no more goals tonight and if we do not see at least one player red-carded. Anyone wanna bet Ortiz will get a second yellow?

Italian flag. Velez is traditionally an Italian team.

Well, in classical Rio de la Plata fashion I'm sure there will be a token fight towards the end with multiple red carded on the losing team.

    It's a Libertadores tradition! :p

Martinuccio again, precise pass and Olivera ALONE misses it!

On the counter, Silva scores for Velez!

Game should turn much more interesting now. :D

Olivera missed - but Silva didn't.

Silva looked like he was going to burst a vein on his head as he shouted his goal.

Do you have this week's lottery numbers by any chance? :D

    Velez now with 10.

Peñarol just wasted a 5 on 3 attack!

And just like that, Velez is down to 10 men. A defender, no less.

Lots of pivotal roles tonight... Martinuccio missing goals, Silva scoring his, the ref's bad calls, Olivera missing an open goal, and now Ortiz getting ejected.

Martinuccio really lacks the skills to go with this speed.
