I noticed that CONMEBOL had put up an updated list with almost all the teams that will be taking part. Which teams are 2 & 3 from Colombia and Chile ?
I guess this weekend it will be decided , right ?

They aren't done with the renewal of their old stadium yet. I think they'll return there late in 2009 or early in 2010.

Olimpia is a terrible stage right now and probably won't be going anywhewre any time soon, and Cerro qualified for the Sudamericana.

As much as I hate Cerro, I do think they would be a better contender in the Libertadores then Nacional.

Is libertad in it next year? They won the league right?

And right now Bolivia 3 is between La Paz FC or San Jose.

They i think have to play brasil 4 or 5 in the qualifying round? I think someone mentioned that it will most likely be Palmieras? How is that looking? Is it them?

Looks like we have a possible "Group of Death" already forming. If Colo Colo defeats Palestino and Palmeiras defeats Bolivia #3, I think Group #1 is it. LDU, Colo Colo, Palmeiras, and Sport Recife all in the same group?? Not bad, although Sport Recife will be the odd club out.

That I do Superfran, but if I only meant that it'll be a tough group for Sport to get out of since they'll be going up against the 2008 Copa Libertadores champions, a Colo Colo squad that'll most likely dispose of Palestino for another title and who are always tough in these competitions, and the 2008 Paulista champions in Palmeiras. That is of course if Colo Colo and Palmeiras defeat their opposition.

If Tigre qualifies they would be Argentina 3, not Argentina 5.

Argentina 5 is likely going to be Estudiantes, except if Tigre wins the Apertura, then Argentina 5 would be San Lorenzo.

hold on!how come you guys dont know yet the other 3 spots for libertadores

lets ee, lanus wion the apertura 07, river clausura 08, and they secured two spots for 2009.... how come teams that can win this new tournament which is for the 08/09 can make it to CL, when 2 teams from 07/08 made ir already?

    that's weird

    Re: Copa Libertadores 2009

Because some that won Aperturas were complaining that they took a long while before they got to play the Libertadores. Although this time they'll have an average based of 3 tournaments.

Champion of Apertura 07/08(Argentina 1): Lanús.
Champion of Clausura 07/08(Argentina 2): River.
    Champion of Apertura 08/09(Argentina 3): San Lorenzo/Tigre/Boca.
    The best 2 placed teams that didn't get a championship(Argentina 4 & 5).

However this will be the only time this system is used. For the Libertadores 2010 the champions of next Clausura and the following Apertura would qualify plus the best 3 placed teams in the average of both tournaments...(as nutty as it sounds because it'd be the average of the 2nd half of a season and the 1st half of the following season...). So for 2010 it'd be like this.

    Champion of Clausura 08/09(Argentina 1): ???
    Champion of Apertura 09/10(Argentina 2): ???
    The best 3 placed teams in the average of the 2 tournaments(Argentina 3, 4 & 5).

One could wonder why then don't they revert the season to a calendar year, i guess the reason such is complicated is because the majority of the players that leave do it during the european summer(basically in the middle of the season), which would bring on more troubles as in the mid-season teams can only do 4 incorporations. Yes the August-June season doesn't match the current Libertadores schedule...

they should make the championship like brasileiraro, only one champion anually, forget the relegation coefficients, and make it easier.....

They should, indeed. They don't want to clearly, in fact most of the people says it should be that way, the matter is that probably that would make the qualifying for the Libertadores even more messed up, because of the schedule.
