Isn't Peñarol already qualified via the uruguayan league? Didn't they win a Pre-Libertadores mini-league or anything of the sort?

According Wikipedia Peñarol goes to the qualifying round as "Uruguay 3" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copa_Libertadores_2009

Take care with every word Libermann says he's a shithead.

In a way or another it seems that FIFA is not kidding with Peru.:(

Also if they pick the Sudamericana winner it could be conflicting, Inter and Argentinos have no chance to qualify via their respective leagues as far as i know so there's no problem though Estudiantes is likely to get qualified on the argentine table and i think Chivas will play the Interliga. Maybe this is what they mean when they said the Sudamericana winner to the Libertadores(which in the end doesn't involve the Recopa as it was thought).

Why would Independiente go, though? First off, I think they should give the spot to another country with less teams participating (such as Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, etc.). But if they are going to give it to an Argentinean team, why not someone else? There are many teams ahead of Independiente in the current Tabla General to qualify for the Copa Libertadores (Boca, San Lorenzo, Estudiantes, Tigre, Velez, Lanus -already qualified-, Newell's, River -already qualified-, and Argentinos Jrs.).

    Makes no sense whatsoever.

The idea of inviting Independiente and Santos is because they're 2 teams that won it many times and are going to miss it(in normal circumstances) and that would be a decision by CONMEBOL, though if the spots were given to the countries, it's up to the countries to decide how the teams qualify.

In the words of Marcelo Palacios today: Independiente es invitado porque gano la copa 500 veces.

For some reason I was thinking of Sudamericana. This would suck for Peruvian football, they have enough problems as it is.

If they qualify via Interliga then yes. San Luis is the only club from Mexico qualified, they will be Mexico 1.

Tomorrow in Asunción, it'll be the draw of the Libertadores.

What's know for now, while the sanction for Peru seems to be somewhat unclear for now, though it's believed that anytime soon it'll be official. The 3 peruvian spots would be "blank" for now, leaving the door open for the possibility that they won't get suspended(highly unlikely).

It is not clear yet what would happen with the peruvian spots. A version indicates that there would be a draw and 3 countries would get the 3 peruvian spots and they'd assign them in any way they want, although there's the possibility that they directly give them to 3 chosen teams, the ones being mentioned for a while, Santos, Independiente and some sources also add Peñarol, i don't know why because Peñarol is already in the qualifying round, still the clubs are hopeful that they would be picked as a recognition to their history in the Libertadores.

The case i'm following closely is Independiente's, some Libertadores' legends of Independiente were invited to the draw. Ricardo Pavoni(one of Independiente's former players invited) claims that there's nothing official yet, however they'd try to get one of the free peruvian spots for Independiente. Today Independiente's president, Julio Comparada, said that if given the chance AFA would give it to Independiente, to me at least that sounds a bit weird knowing that Comparada is an oppositor of Grondona and also there being rumours that Arsenal was in the talks.

Internacional and Fluminense want the 2 Peruvian spots.

I really hope not, as Brasil along with Argentina have enough spots already, but knowing Conmebol they'l probably give it to Mexico or some other Concacrap country instead of giving it to another Conmebol country.

    Argentina 5 vs Vacante 3
    Brasil 5 vs Bolivia 3

Traten de hacerlo menos transparente, por favor.
