Colo Colo played a better game, but failed to capitalize on the chances to score. Thankfully, Sport did score on their few chances and I am glad the refs made the right call on the first goal. This was an important start and hopefully we can beat LDU at home come April.

Very frustrating game, but in the end I knew Sao Paulo would pull through, this game reminded me of the Luqueno game last time around.

SPFC is just like Brasil, slow in the group stages but kicks it up in the knockout stages.

PS: Congrats Sport Recife on an upset.

Probably one of the most boring games I had seen so far, and up until Cruzeiro's (questionable) PK, Estudiantes had looked better (then again, Cruzeiro hadn't done much).

    3-0 now: it's a wrap.

I agree. Estudiantes seemed to be in control, but after that questionable penalty they fell apart.

In the 2009 Libertadores' first Brazil vs. Argentina matchup, Brazilian soccer prevails.

I did see the 2nd half and Estudantes da Prata was holding its own - but after that 1st goal it was a total meltdown. They better pick up their composure if they want to go far in this tournament.

How far has Estudantes' roster changed from the roster that faced Internacional?

Kleber's performance may make some Palmeiras fans miss him - all the more since the pressure is on Palmeiras right now.

Universitario 1, Sao Lourenco 0: that Argentine dude was pretty shameless in pushing the guy on the breakaway; deserved ejection. And Solano looks older than all his teammates combined.

Yep - SPFC does start slow sometimes. It's only the 1st game and it's a LONG competition.

So Palmeiras, SPFC, Sport, and Cruzeiro have had their debuts. When is Gremio playing?

It's funny, Universitario was playing well early on, even when San Lorenzo had 11 players, and now they are barely holding on against 10.

Sorprendente lo de Universitario, aunque jugo bien.
La clase de Solano aun no se pierde: aun sabe mucho con el balon, aunque debio haber sido expulsado.

Yeah, Solano had a good match, even though he ran out of gas at the end. He was the difference maker.

Here is my weekly review of La Copa:

    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/blog.php?b=3884

    To summarize:

Player of the week: Damian Manso (LDU)
Honorable Mention: Walter Calderon (LDU), Aldo Bobadilla (DIM)

Goat of the week: Jonathan Botinelli (San Lorenzo)
Dishonorable Mention: Marquinhos (Palmeiras), Riquelme (Boca), Javier Toyo and Deivis Barone (Caracas)

Team of the week: Liga Deportiva
    Honorable mention: Nacional (Uruguay).

Worst team of the week: Nacional (Paraguay)
    Dishonorable mention: Colo-Colo, Estudiantes.

There is nothing dishonorable about losing to Sport. They're 11-0-1 so far this season (though the Pernambucano is nothing to write home about).

I don't think he meant in such a way (as to discredit Sport). However, Colo Colo was widely considered the clear favorite, at least on paper (though that didn't mean much as they got clearly outplayed by the Brazilians).

    Cheers! :)

I have to admit that Sport Recife is the team I know the least about in La Copa. I mean, outside Brazil, who follows the Pernambucano?

I figured they couldn't be pushovers if they managed to win the Copa do Brasil, but frankly I didn't expect them to go into Chile and beat Colo Colo. I am sure it was a confidence booster, it will be interesting to see if they can build on that win. They are in a tough group.

Yea, I believe the favorite to win the match was Colo Colo, but you can expect that a brazilian team can "Pintarte la cara en cualquier momento".
En cuanto a los equipos Colombianos siempre les da buena lucha a los equipos Brasileiros en Brasil.

Don't get me wrong, I am just glad that Sport are even in the competition and have rather low expectations for Sport in this tournament--not because they are worse than the other teams, but because of the group they fell into. Yet, we have done well as a dark horse in the past year, so maybe that will result in some more nice surprises. Getting past the group stage at this point would make me more than satisfied.

It's a little bit of both.....Recife is a Brasilian team and they will be always tough. And Colo Colo is a Chilean team.....no disrespect but kinda easy really :)
