Credit to Sevilla. This was a tough tie despite that 4-0 scoreline at one point. Massive test passed. Other teams will be taking note.
Alba and Rakitic were immense! Messi was wasteful with a couple of chances he should have put away. Bad game in terms of scoring but still a GOAT game with playmaking and he showed good leadership to constantly press on defense and let Coutinho take the PK. Hopefully this is a team win that inspires us. Defense is still worrying...
That Coutinho PK was so close to being saved. Had to be hit perfectly. Hopefully this game gets him going.
everyone loves a good remontada specially when all the fan favorites score.... is this our 9th straight CdR semi final?
The goal which put the tie beyond reach was the 5th one for Barca, after Sevilla scored they were one away goal from advancing on away goals, it made it more exciting to watch than 4-0 but a bit too intense, and Sevilla obviously gained confidence with the 4-1 score and knew they just needed one more. They had a corner, obviously a possible avenue to score and take command as 4-2 meant 4-4 on aggregate and they'd advance on away goals just like the last time they knocked us out of the Copa. Meeting the short corner was Luis Suarez who blocked it near the end line and first time cleared it just past the box at 0:47 in this video, there it looks like Arthur but not sure (?) chests it down and away from our goal then sends a long ball into space for Leo to run on to at 0:49, Leo sprints to the wide through ball with a defender at his hip, at 0:55 he takes the first of 4 or so touches of the ball, cutting it back, and taking in the spread out field, he picks out Arturo Vidal for a cross field pass, at 0:59 Arturo traps, then one dribble, then releases Alba on an overlapping run down the left side at 1:00, at 1:02 Alba runs on to the pass at first times it to Suarez, who has run the entire length of the field and first times it in at 1:05, 18 seconds after he first cleared the corner to start the counter at the other end line (and the replay may have even slowed it down before the Alba pass to show Suarez was onside, so I think the entire move was done in less than 18 seconds)
This is one of those games that reminds other teams that if you come out to attack us, whether by choice or out of necessity, we will punish the hell out of you. Expect teams to bunker hard from here on out. No one can afford to leave space behind their defense. And just imagine if Dembele was out there today, too.
The only thing that would've made that 6th goal filthier is if Messi had also back-heeled it on to Piqué to finish it.
Since everyone's posting the video from behind Messi to say 'no penalty' (where the view is hard to make out), here's the side angle, uploaded by me, that no one's posting because it won't get likes on social media. You're welcome. pic.twitter.com/q30AkOUq2J— Jibber Jabber (@EthanFromOnline) January 31, 2019
Worth a couple more looks, it wasn't as vital as the earlier goals but Barca's 6th was pretty amazing:
