    bueno,
yo paro a chile asi, bien parecido :)

    ------------Peric
    Rocco Riffo Contreras
    Fierro Iturra Sanhuesa tello
    ----------Valdivia
    ------------------ Villanueva
    -------------Suazo

    -No me convencio mucho Vargas

I prefer to play defensively and make Brazil desperate.

I don't think we possess enough defensive quality to be able to play bunker defense, or mostly all-out defense (and therefore, break out in the counter attack). We just don't.

In all likelihood, we're gonna get scored on anyway, so we might as well take advg. of our good attacking players and try to score ourselves (namely Suazo, Valdivia and Villanueva).

Furthermore, you need the actual players to implement a sytem like that, which we don't. You would need 2 quality CBs (definitely not Vagras/Contreras, much less Fuentes; maybe Riffo and Rocco, though I doubt it), 2 quality defensive mids (we have one that likes to initiate attacks--Sanhueza, one that gets forward a lot--Iturra, and one that is playing like sh!t--Melendez), and actual fullbacks, which we do not have in this squad.

Not to mention that 99.9% of the time when we try to play mostly defensive soccer, we get raped, anyway.

We've also got better attacking subs than vice versa.

I think Acosta is doing the right thing in this one, bunker the first half and, if Brazil manage to score, and they probably will, attack during the second half with fresh players.

Why did we always play for the tie? Why do we have to wait to the 2nd half to attack?

I would attack from the beginning, and jump into the lead. Much like Mexico did.

    I'll tell you why:

1- Our players are phyisicaly weaker than the brazilians:

This is no secret. They are fitter and stronger than the Chilean squad (on avarage). Mexicans got away with it cause they have a competitive league that also plays many matches on altitude, so they can run and run the 90 minutes. Chileans are not good at this, we usually run a lot and waste all the energy in the first few minutes and then walk for the rest of the match or vice versa, we walk a lot and run in the last minutes, like we did against Ecuador...which leads me to the second point.

    2- For strategic reasons:

It is much better and clever if we bunker the first minutes, let Brazil do the hard work and try to score. They will be desperate and it is their desesperation what we must use against them, they will leave spaces and guys like Suazo and Mark can run behind them.

If necesary, in the second half we can go out full force.

Sounds sort of trivial, but I feel Chile needs to keep passing that ball around.

Our weakness against Brazil when we played in Sweden was in being unable to connect 3 to 4 passes. Then we got blown out when Brazil would capitalize on dead ball situations.
