hmmm, I've mentioned before how I feel this was all a stalling tactic to improve the terms. The US version would be worth 4-5 x what they could get vs this co-hosting venture and it would mean that the Conmebol countries would end up keeping most of their dollars vs the costs incurred needed to host and prepare for the event.
I hope we will host it alone. With two countries and the final not in Colombia, I'm passing on the idea of wasting CA hosting. As for the stadiums, it's the Copa America. Countries with worse stadiums hosted it before. We remodelled them in less yhan a decade, no need to do it again. Atanasio, Pascual, Palmaseca, El Campin, Barranquilla and maybe Palogrande are good enough to host.
I love my Cali but palamaseca was poorly designed. If we’re going to host in that stadium they need a major renovation Asap
Agree that it's poorly designed but as a stadium it can host a tournament like the Copa America, it fits the standard. But even without Palmaseca Cali has Pascual and the stadium in Pereira is also good.
I've never seen the Palmaseca stadium. I understand the stadium itself is not bad but the logistics to get there and that it's so far removed was not well thought out? What are your thoughts, have you been?
I’ve never been but I have cousins that have .they live in the south of Cali and have to plan ahead to get there on time since the stadium is basically in Palmira . The “ parking lot” is terrible ..I don’t even think that should be considered a parking lot . Also the place sometimes doesn’t have running water.the whole project was rushed and it’s a shame because the stadium had potential. Biggest issues is the commute from Cali, parking for those who drive or transportation for those who don’t . Maybe if this copa is confirmed they can renovate it.
If I remember correctly the stadium had some construction red tape because of some some sort of Native burial ground or something like that so they could not build any more or renovate it.
They didn’t plan it well at all they should have built the stadium by valle de lilli ( southern sector of Cali) imo.
I don't understand. Colombia wants to host alone, they compete vs. Argentina who hosted 8 years ago. where's the question anyway? why exactly Argentina deserves to host two tournaments in 8 years?
Does SA give the host money for hosting for updates like the WC or... you will get money because more people go to your country?
Hosting an international soccer tournament is a loss leader as far any country's revenue, but the positive press from a successful tournament outweigh the losses in many people's eyes. President Duque needs to leave this matter to the football people, there are greater issues that need addressed in Colombia than trying to host a profitless tournament.
Talk out Rio that @afa will NOT host @CopaAmerica... Colombia wants it on their own. Argentina (apparently) wants it on their own. Distance between both countries ~6000km.— Juan Arango (@JuanG_Arango) April 9, 2019
I hope they spread out the games a bit better than in 2001. Colombia should play in every city at least once. I felt like it was weird that they did not play in Medellin or in el Pascual last time around.
God I thought you guys were joking but it is offical... http://fcf.com.co/index.php/las-sel...nSKqLjDPQbh1n0glfaf04BQmZonFRGDkNdQjkN7mZQHe4
Aside from Brazil I feel pretty good about our chances in the group stage. But that invited nation....wonder who we will get.
