This tournament and the next World cup would be the last chance for the 2005 & 2007 generations to win something for the nation (maybe some will also play in next year Copa ?) , but the 2014-2018 cycle is pretty much their last hurrah.

My prediction : 2-0 for Argentina. Messi and Kun scores.

clear penalty on Messi not called...
very solid performance, I like how we are able to hold the ball and control the tempo
I still feel we are lacking some teeth without higuain

Who does Higuain replace? He's not better than Kun nor Messi. You slide Banega in for Pastore, and then you get Pipita there?, then you leave Masche a lone in the MF since Banega will move up a bit more. Pipita is not needed for this formation.

If Aguero was this good at the WC you guys would have won no doubt, but apparently he only shows up at the Copa Americas lol

Roncaglia still a bit hotheaded. Rather rusty link up play between the front three. di Maria trying too hard. Not enough presence in midfield from Pastore and Banega.

Otamendi solid as a rock. More width please. Rojo and Roncaglia are not natural fullbacks and have not offered much aside from the last burst that was offside. Three more goals would be nice and rest some of the players and give some of the others a run out.

I liked Sabella's formation BUT, you had to rely a lot on Messi to create, or had Gago or Biglia supplying balls. With Pastore, you give Messi more freedom and doesn't have to do XYZ. Plus, with Banega starting and playing well, then he can supply for Messi as well. This is a more balanced team than Sabella.

It is only game 1. Time for the team to build chemistry with Pastore pretty much a new element. The referee has been rather poor as well.

I agree with you. BUT Messi is still dropping deep so I wonder how much Pastore is really needed out there

Messi has been dropping back for the last couple years, for club and country, that's not going to change. Pastore is there to create and he's done well to open Paraguay.
