It's not like we haven't won any trophies since ever... it's one thing to say we're favorite it's another to say we're going to demolish a team in front of the world.

No brazilian soccer fan is ever that optimistic... ever

    Yes.

Brazilians went 24 years without winning a World Cup, witnessed a 0-3 defeat in France, not to mention defeats against Honduras in 2001 and a very bad performance against France in 2006. We suffered a great deal in the qualifying campaign for 2002, and even lost a friendly to Venezuela in 2008. We did not need the defeat against Germany last year to teach us that it's best not to talk before games.

It was rather rude and arrogant to say here to Chileans, who were eagerly and anxiously awaiting a title for their NT, that their team, which was playing at home, was going to be destroyed/smoked/humiliated in front of the whole world. To mock them about their lack of titles before 2015 was likewise very rude. This was highly hurtful to the Chileans' sensibilities, as they needed no reminder that other teams in CONMEBOL had won cups and theirs hadn't. The Chilean fans who later wrote here referring to those predictions really couldn't be blamed.

Had those who here bragged about an easy win for their team instead predicted a win in a neutral manner, without disrespecting Chile - and then, had those posters later written words of respect to Chile, regardless of the result, the Chileans would have had no reason to be provocative themselves.

This is why despite Brazil's horrible defeat vs. Germany last year, I really couldn't get myself to hate Germany. The German players were respectful throughout the entire game and afterwards, and they went out of their way to ask others to respect us and not to mock us. This earned the Germans a lot of good will among Brazilians.

Compare and contrast that with fans who came to my country misbehaving in myriad ways (including violence, profanity, and attempted assaults against women) and who, like their NT, sang songs saying "Brazil, tell me what it feels like to have your daddy here..." Those same fans went to Chile 1 year later singing an even ruder song.

It reminds me of how very often, during 2000-2002, certain fans mocked Brazil and said we wouldn't even reach the World Cup, that we were history, that we were done. We won the World Cup; other teams didn't do much other than lose and go home early. I doubt I'd do this now, but as a younger and rasher man, I sure let them hear it afterwards.

And on that note:... Parabéns Chile, Campeão da América!

    (Parabéns = congratulations)

I can only speak for the Brazilians on Big Soccer. From what I've observed, they've taken their victories well. You could even label it as winning gracefully. Then again they rarely encounter other posters that talk a lot of smack before the final. From the Brazilians you meet, I could also say the same.

Seems liks Christina99 has a full PR department in these threads. What? Did she send you guys some x-rated pix? She, like loca, talked smack prior to the final and then like the pussies they both are did not come back after they lost the final.

If you talk trash, then you need to be able to back it up after the fact. Don't run away like some scared rat.

I think that for the most part settles that "debate" about those two. Let's move on now.
