Nice idea for a charity tournament, but as an official competition? Meh. Bring in weight classes to all football competitions imo.
It's imaginable that the EU actually becomes a Union (the crisis already forced Euro countries closer together) ... the EU would then be a behemoth country and could assemble an all-star squad to compete against other countries ... today a team consisting of the best players from EU countries probably would be a huge favorite to lift the cup in Brazil ... still it's silly to think about it ... but similar to the NBA all-star weekend, you could go for such a gala event.

As an actual competition, I don't think the idea has any merit. But as an opportunity to list our respective confederations all-star teams, this could be an intersting thread. Except, unlike the not so distant past when the bulk of my choices for the AFC all-star team would be Iranian players, I am not sure if I can fit too many Iranian players in an Asian all-star team today. We have quite a balanced side but not one with any real stars. Anyway, my AFC XI (using a 4-2-3-1 type formation) would be something like the following, although my choice of the AFC XI goalie actually is someone who hasn't really played but 2 games in the AFC in total which I admit makes the choice a bit strange. Goalie: Daniel Davari (IRAN) (Eintracht Braunchweig, Germany) Right fullback: Atsuto Uchida (JAPAN) (Shalke 04, Germany) Central Defender: Maya Yoshida (JAPAN) (Southhampton, EPL) Central Deender: Jalal Hosseini (IRAN) (Perspolis, Iran) Left Fullback: Yutu Nagatomo (JAPAN) (Inter Milan, Italy) Defensive Midfielder: Javad Nekounam (IRAN) (moved to make large $$ on a 4-month deal with some Kuwaiti club trying to get into the AFC CL) Defensive Midfielder: Makoto Hasebe (JAPAN) (FC Nuremberg, Germany) Attacking Midfielder: Keisuke Honda (JAPAN) (AC Milan, Italy) Attacking Midfielder: Shinji Kagawa (JAPAN) (Manchester United) Attacking Midfielder: Ashkan Dejageh (IRAN) (Fulham, England) Forward: Son Heung Min (South Korea) (Bayer Leverkusen, Germany)
