He'll be 31 for Qatar though.

Not the worst age for a poacher who thrives on crosses. He was never going to beat anyone in a race so just more experienced and arguably more dangerous.

Really cheering for this guy. He has such an awesome attitude and has fought back from a lot.

Which is a good age for an outfield player, especially one who has never been heavily reliant on pace to make an impact.

And, since it'll probably be his first and only shot at a World Cup, the sweetness of being there and the motivation to succeed will only be heightened.

His contract ends next summer and at this point he should be looking for alternative to soccer because the man is injured over 80% of the time.

MLS might be worth a chance

If his knees are chronic, MLS will be no solution: endless travel, (still) playing on plastic, all teams must travel coach class, etc. Plus, even if MLS would make an offer, would it be a good one?

If his knees don't allow him to play BL2 or MLS any more, dropping down to an RL side with a sugar daddy would get him in-the-same-conversation money as MLS, much less travel, travelling by coach of a different class, no need to uproot a young family, etc. It'd also give him time and scope to network to put that journalism/media studies degree to work and plan for life after soccer: he's pushing 27, so that day is coming anyway.

Depends on what MLS team would give him a look. MLS teams can be quite a bit different these days. I knew DC United sniffed around awhile ago.

But there would be teams interested in Boyd, for sure. I think Boyd would have to look at a Eastern Conference team. There are only two teams in that conference that play on turf (Atlanta and New England). Plus, the travel isn't bad because so many teams are in close proximity geographically.

I do know Boyd considers himself still to be a NY Red Bulls fan.

There was a Boyd to NYRB (on loan?) rumor a while ago, but I thought it was mostly made up.

He was on the books at RB Leipzig. NYRB are owned by Red Bull. It was all so logical!!!

Except he didn't quite fit the NYRB style of play, so they'd have parked him on the bench. I can just see the BS threads now, blaming it on anti-American bias ;)

At NYRB, would have been behind BWP who is one of the best goal scorers in the league. But BWP is going to be 33 at the start of the season, a healthy Boyd would give Marsch a chance to give BWP some days off.

That being said, Boyd needs to stay healthy for that to even be an option.

We definitely need a good backup and eventual replacement for BWP, but have to make sure Boyd is fit enough for the press

Believe I saw on Twitter that Kaiserslautern's head coach had a heart attack.

The manager is 43 and looks like he could still play. That's sad, man.
