yes but he played the next game, he didn't get dropped for a period of time which i hope isn't the case with Lindelöf
I think Lindelof is going to have to bide his time. We have Bailly who is very good and Jones and Smalling who are average, but experienced in the league and who know how to play with each other. FWIW I think Lindelof would have been fine next to Bailly yesterday playing the proactive role. My hope is that by Christmas he is in the mix. Long season and we will inevitably have injuries that need covering in the backline.
Both Vidic and Evra had rocky half of seasons after they came to the club and it wasn't until the start of the following season that they really started coming into their own. The same thing on different scales happened with the likes of Stam and Pallister before. Lindelof is really no different and in his case, he can afford to take his time with him, for reasons explained previously. Of course, there is no guarantee of anything and Lindelof could end up being a bust. But just a couple of months into his United career, it's way too early to even go there frankly and we need to see where he stands in his development at some point down the line. If we fail to see progress and him learning anything, then it will be time to really be concerned IMO...

lindelof will have to fight for playing time - he wasn't brought in with any guarantees. bailly is our star cb and jones is above-average and could even be considered 'good' if he can stay injury-free. it will take something special for him to break up that partnership, at least this year. smalling is of no consequence and will be sold as soon as rojo comes back.
what i'm liking the most at the moment is that josé has coached out all of lvg's side-passing nonsense out of our players.
We also have Tuanzebe, and maybe Roshuan Williams/Regan Poole if Jose plays them. As much as I think Smalling is very harshly dealt with, he should be moved.
I really don't see Smalling being sold this season anyhow. Poole is out on loan and Williams still needs seasoning. Even when Rojo comes back, there will still be (legitimate) questions about how fit he really is (at first at least). We appear to suffer some kind of defensive crisis every year and by virtue of that alone, Smalling should stick around as an option until the end of the season. By which time, it probably will make a lot more sense to move him.
On the question of Smalling, he needs to start somewhere rather than be a little-used squad man for us. I doubt either Spurs, City or Chelsea would be interested anyway, but apart from those three I wouldn't have a problem selling him to another prem club.

Syed you are right. Regan Poole was highly touted when signed. He has potential, he is good enough but he got injured and fell off a bit and now on loan. He is not as bad as described.

How so? The Iceman has played poorly so far, almost as poorly as Memphis did for us. There's nothing in today's news reports that suggest that he's suffered undue misfortune such as injury.
