I know there is going to be a lot of changes but I'm not sure about Aquino. I think tomorrow's game might be tougher than expected but I didn't see the Russia/NZ game, so I don't know how it will go. I think I read that NZ will try to attack since they are screwed in the points and are at -2. It would really help if they do that.
It isn't their fcking country. Let it be the Cherokee or Sioux FA, then maybe they deserve a cut. The nads deserve no cash from games they're not in, it's a travesty that this country's most popular team has to give them a cut for no reason at all, and most of those games are on our own soil. It is 100% harmless. Please show me one GK whose feelings got hurt because of it. Show me one gay guy whose day was ruined because of it. There are none. This is all beyond ridiculous. I can't believe some in here are in favor of us getting pwnt on this.
For what it's worth, your logic is super ignorant. Hate speech has no place in this world. I am guilty of it as I have implicit biases I am trying to shake, so spare me the personal attack. But to argue that it's not a homophobic chant and it's just Mexican picardia is to turn a blind eye to the problem: You're making it OK for people to chant it. You're making it OK for kids to chant it. Kids will grow up thinking it's OK, and not homophobic. Meanwhile, there's another segment of society (myself included) calling gays it, while not necessarily making the relation to the soccer chant. Understand that the severity is not the issue here. No, it's not the N word. But how many times have we seen (white) people blurt out the N word when upset or mad at a black person? It starts with you, my friend. It starts at home. It starts with the way you raise your children. And like I said, I don't claim to be a saint. I, too, have shouted it at matches. But I stopped. I don't want to see an empty home game for us, or docked points. Not for some mamadas that I didn't necessarily have to do before 2006. I'm not a kid. I can follow rules. It's not a violation of my civil liberties, nor is it putting a damper on my right to be, to live and to express myself. I'm just sayin'...
Wow, your a mod and your contributing to a ridiculous thread jacking, with nonsense about the whole "Pvto Chant". The whole discussion is stupid and has nothing to do with New Zealand vs Mexico. The SJW nonsense doesn't belong on this thread. People who want to discuss this should create a separate thread instead of filling page after page of whining about stupid chants.
I don't take my kids to México games because of the ******** chant, and because of the drunken obnoxious behavior, and the fights. I personally don't give a shit about the chant. It's not necessarily homophobic, although others can see it that way. I just don't want my kids hearing it or saying it, and they're not big enough to have noticed it like that yet.
Grito o no, hoy gana Mexico... Getting out of work early to watch the game. @Baysic .... you've been summoned dawg.
I really love the it's not homophobic defense. I'm sure we'd be saying the same if it were thousands of nads yelling mow my lawn... Maybe pern is right? The chant is part of our culture...sadly.
Much like peeing by a bush instead of using a portable potty during a party. As much as it is unnecessary, people will continue to do it no matter what.
The chant is awful, tacky and it exhibits the worst parts of the Mexican albur. I don't think it is inherently homophobic since there are three or four words I can think of that are direct insults towards the LGBT community and p*to is barely in the top 10. This being said, it needs to stop. Mexican fans have much more to offer on the world stage than being known for doubling down on the chant. There are a few issues here. First and foremost, while the LGBT community in Mexico has officially denounced the chant, it has also divided opinions as to the nature and meaning of this chant amongst members of that same community, who are the ones who are most affected by it. Also worth noting that while the word p*to requires specific context in order to decide whether or not it is being used as a homophobic slur, this ends up proving exactly why it needs to stop. Some people will argue that FIFA is being hypocritical by pointing the finger at Mexico fans over this controversy while allowing countries like Russia and Qatar to host their premiere event, and this is obviously a good point but it falls in line with "what aboutisms" and we simply end up going in circles to explain away the logic for each argument. Personally, the most troubling part about this is the fact that Mexican fans are doubling down and chanting p*to even louder during games, as some sort of middle finger to the FMF and FIFA. It's a level of entitlement that is worrisome since it indicates that they are not willing to consider why some people find it offensive. Colombians should be worried. It's only a matter of time before they come under scrutiny for their use of "marica" in every day conversation, especially while they're at a stadium supporting their club or National Team.
Can we talk about Futbol guys? Parecen viejas. Has anyone seen a lineup yet for todays game? I've been looking but nothing.
LOL at all of this. You're sensitive enough to talk about it being the "Cherokee or Sioux FA " that should be given it ( I wonder when you're going to say the same about the Purepecha or Huichol FA) or that it's "Our own soil" but then when it comes to gays and the chant that it's an insult then "100% harmless" and it's the people shouting an insult that are the victims. What a total hypocrite you are.
Oh, sexist too? This is a ********ing stupid post, but I agree that there are other threads we can discuss this.
