I feel good about the matchup with Germany except for Emre Can. HH, because he's alone and inexperienced in the position, leaves way too much pace in front of the CBs. I feel Can is going to break through that space and cause havoc.
Kicker has 2 articles - "Bundesliga experience, an oldie and the great coup" stating Germany has a positive balance sheet against Mexico but at the same time Mexico has got big Bundesliga experience and already managed to beat Germany once - "Gut feeling says St. Petersburg" they quote Löw in another article http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/confedcup/startseite.html Sport1 have 2 articles - a nice interview with Ines Sainz - "perspective team wants to reach final" saying Germany can be optimistic but there will be changes in the team http://www.sport1.de/fussball/confed-cup Sportschau.de - "Confed Cup - Löw announces changes in line-up" http://www.sportschau.de/confedcup/dfb-pressekonferenz-vor-dem-mexiko-spiel-100.html Augsburger Allgemeine - "Who follows Chile into the final?" http://www.augsburger-allgemeine.de...Jogis-Jungs-hungrig-und-heiss-id41879661.html Die Welt - "Jogis Boys are hungry and ready" https://www.welt.de/newsticker/dpa_...e166053295/Jogis-Jungs-hungrig-und-heiss.html t-online - "Legendary duels against Mexico - penalty thriller in the heat of Monterrey" http://www.t-online.de/sport/fussball/id_81526652/deutschland-mexiko-es-war-immer-dramatisch.html Deutschlandfunk - German NT strives for first Confed Cup final http://www.deutschlandfunk.de/confe...erstes-finale.2851.de.html?drn:news_id=762518
I never said Germany should not be favorites just that we have a realistic shot at winning. Most inconsistent? Based on what? They got 7 points and advanced from the group although they haven't looked good doing it but that's a different story. It's also goofy to believe what the so-called soccer pundits are saying...If this was Germany's main squad I would agree but it's not.
Huh? He said "if [Mexico] come out focused and inspired tomorrow, they can win" in the exact post you quoted. I find no quarrel with that; unfocused and uninspired teams don't tend to win much. If the point of contention was whether Mexico can beat Germany, I'm inclined to believe you guys agree and are arguing past each other.
Germany wins tomorrow. Joachim Löw is a tactical genius. Osorio's possible dumb substitutions worry me. Mexico has been vulnerable in transitions (all three games btw) Mexico's defense has not been too solid and riddled with injuries. But I'm still gonna root hard for Mexico. I hope the score is at least close if the game is determined in regulation time, if not I hope it's resolved by extra time. I don't wanna go to penalties
If Germany pressures us aggressively, I think Mexico might struggle and slowly fold, but anything can happen in soccer. Fücking Tecatito, we could have used him so badly this tournament
I gotta agree with your sentiment. Germany gave up as many goals as Mexico did in the group stage and Chile was lucky to walk a way with a draw against the Aussies. No one is saying that Mexico has cruised but they came out with 7 points in a group where many expected them to wilt under the pressure of facing the European Champs and the hosts, they didnt.
It's kind of a win win for the haters and doubters. It'll be b team this and that regardless of the result. I understand most picking Germany but kinda silly to not give Mexico a more than decent chance. This should be an even match.
It may seem that way, if you have missed every game that Mexico has played over the last year. Using CBs as fullbacks is what he has tried to do to fix the defense and he's been crucified for it. Chile had a field day with fullbacks like Aguilar and Layun and the inclusion of Salcedo and Alanis, while not a huge upgrade, has certainly helped to steady the defense. Whether or not this approach is ideal is a different matter. Saying the coaching staff is disinterested in addressing the defensive frailty we have seen over the years is misleading. Especially when considering the fact that it is a corner stone of our current coach's philosophy. I don't personally like the flat back four for Mexico but that is a different discussion.
diostioiga! we are aligned, but a lot here were painting it as the superpower. On other news, old PARS walked into a desk that had at least a dozen color pages printed with the German flag, some Disney prince looking dude in german football uniform, and the phrase Deutschland über alles in der welt over the black/red/yellow. (sigh) Pinches gringos, nice fallback. Hope there is enough red and green left in the printers for after the game. /p
i think one of the reasons the back four of CBs tends to look back is because the line naturally plays super high. Against the US, Portugal, NZ and Russia in all of those games Mexico would control the ball and would play inside the other team half without much penetration. The defense would be so close to the midfield that any mistake when playing back to the defense would make them look horrible because they are sprinting trying to cover a counter in an open field. All that scrambling makes the defense look disorganized and weak
Our line-up for starters but most importantly all three games have been like a roller coaster of ups and downs a few minutes of good football followed by inexplicable drops to the point where our key players slowly start to disappear, players that have been called up to the NT numerous times are caught off guard so easily like they are just making their senior team debut, our players have the experience and skill to come out victorious and yes results have been on our side but since Osorio took over every game has been full of uncertainty.
