I think they were pretty realistic in their opinions...there's no historical reason to think that we'll beat them and coming back to win and tie shows toughness but isn't exactly an encouraging sign...I'm hopeful though.
We've got to get beyond this mindset. If it were the full German team then you and the ESPN dopes would have a point but it's not so I think it's more than realistic to think Mexico can win.
I think we can win and will win but to expect non Mexico fans to give us that benefit without any historical precedent is a little goofy. We have to show the doubters. No other way. So les do dis!
Of course it's realistic to think Mexico can win. They got arguably the top two players in this matchup in terms of proven quality; Hernandez and Vela. And they played together for longer than three weeks.
Around 27 years ago (give or take a couple of weeks). The world champion (at the time) stepped out as clear favorite, they had the best player in the world, some consider him best ever (not me). And they faced a team few of us knew where it was on a map... and they lost. So history counts, but it can also be changed. Few fans don't know who Roger Milla is, and most everyone considers Cameroon an African football power. /p
Mexico has been the most inconsistent team of the tournament, we have very good players on paper but on the pitch they are very disorganized and makes them seem to be the weakest of the final 4, its understandable to have many believe Germany is the favorite to win that match up, lets hope they come out inspired and focused tomorrow, if they do they can win.
Looking forward to this one. A lot of Mexicans talking about a revenge against Chile, but don't sleep on these German kids, they got a point to prove and want to be in the A team. I think it was a smart decision by Germany to bring them here. Germany's A team would not have played as well IMO and would have probably treated like a friendly and play worse than these youngsters. At least that's what happens to the Chilean national team when they play friendlies.
I think as soon as Chile went through, the tide turned in favor of Germany. I don't think they could possibly sleep on this team.
While cute, the Miracle in Milan hides one important truth. Argentina still reached the final of the World Cup and nearly became back-to-back Champs. This team tomorrow isn't the big bad wolf. It isn't full strength. It isn't invincible. Save the hyperbole for NEXT summer when we play Germany in a rematch and they have their "full squad" to defend their World Cup crown, as well as avenge their loss (tomorrow). Then I'll buy it 100%.
