http://www.concacaf.com/view_article.aspx?id=4553 Rather than play a home and home between the Clausura and Apertura winners if they are different to determine who is the country's first and second team (for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras) or only team (for Belize and Nicaragua), "the seedings would be determined first by aggregate points over both seasons, then goal difference then goals scored." The same procedure would be used to determine the second team from an UNCAF country that gets two teams and had one team win the Clausura and Apertura.
That's what Firpo did this season. After winning both the Apertura and Clausura tournaments, they claimed the group stage spot, and the second spot went to Metapan who had the second best points on aggregate over both seasons.
i have a question if Marathon win the Apertura and real finish second and then in the Clausura Olimpia wins and real finish second does that mean Marathon and Olimpia go or Olimpia and real go to the CL?
Yes, both the Apertura and Clausura winners would go through (so in this case Marathon and Olimpia). Then to decide who gets the group stage spot and who goes to the preliminaries, they'd look at the overall points over both seasons, and the one with more points would go directly to the group stage.
yes yes this idea makes complete sense....no need to waste more energy on one extra game(or games) and base it on merit instead.
This makes sense. Although I remember hearing that the leagues wanted to keep to themselves the right to decide how to determine who goes straight to the group phase and who goes to the playoffs...I suppose they all agreed to do it this way now?
